Do you think the Shuffle is worth it? And do you think the Mini Mac is a good idea to get for my parents? They basically type and use the internet.

I don't know about the iPod Shuffle but the Mini Mac isn't worth 499$ imo.
You'd be better off buying a PC for that kind of money. Even Dell, which isn't really known for it's humane prices, has a 499$ offer that includes the screen.
And there are cheaper bargains out there.

The mac is so easy to use I would buy that for my next computer if I needed one.

Just plug in a screen, keyboard and mouse and you'll have a machine that doesn't crash even if you try and is easy to use - no installers or stuff, just drag around.

The iPod Shuffle has 512 Mb memory at only $99, which is cheap. Usually you get 128 for that prize. I would buy it if I needed a player like that..

Also, the Mini Mac is so small and good-looking you don't need to hide it. It looks good.

Like what are some better baragians?

Depends on where you live.
Since I'm from germany I won't be able to tell you where to find the best bargain but I'll try to show you my point with Dell as an example.

The Mini Mac costs 499$ without screen while Dell has a PC for the same price that includes the screen. Add Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice and you are good to go.

I personaly are no friend of Dell because they don't sell AMD. Looking at the back of the current c't (very good german IT mag) I see enough bargains in the <300 Euro range (and btw, the Mac Mini costs 499 Euro here...).
You said it's mainly for typing (=OpenOffice) and internet. MacMini comes with a Radeon 3D card which, although I am ATi fan, is nothing your parents will need. And guessing based on my parents they won't be using the CD-RW for writing either.

Just ask around here a bit or peek into some computer mag. I'm sure you'll find something <400$ that'll suit your needs.

I ain't got anything agains Macs in general but the Mini is just way too expensive.

I could not imagine buying a worse MP3-Player.

Really, it is expensive and still has no display at all, the BATTERY LIFE is abysmally low.

Better get a Creative Flash-Player or something from iAudio, iRiver or a good no-name player.

They beat the iPod Shuffle in any regards. Hint: If you want a white player, take a look at Creatives MuVo V200 / N200 series.

Uhh... no other manufacturer offers 512Mb of space... at most you get 128 for the same price... that's... 4 times more.

And the point is that it's completely random. It randomizes the playlist... which is why it doesn't need a screen..

Some like it, others don't. I sure would like one...

Reality Check!

There are manufacturers who offer better quality and 1 GB of space for less prize.

Do you have any clue of MP3 players at all? The Random play option is included in even the cheapest player on the market, aaargh...!!!

iPod Shuffle 512 -> 99 EUR
with 1024 MB -> 149 EUR

Creative MuVo TX FM 512 MB - with Radio, Display, useable as pure USB-Stick without cable, twice the battery life: -> 124 EUR

MuVo V200 512 MB -> basically the same, white -> 119 EUR
the same with 1 GB -> 169 EUR

now lets take a look at cheaper offers who all have Display, FM, and direct line-in recording plus voice recorder features AND the <cough> new feature of random play (this is just too stupid...)

maxfield G-Flash, 1 GB, a bestseller: 119 EUR (I do not recommend it for various reasons, but it is still better in every respect than the iPod Shuffle!)

Hey, just check a website selling MP3 players, you will find multiple quality offers for around the same price or even less!

They look coll, but are impractical for me.

I wouldn't get the shuffle, they look terrible
As for the minimac, I have no clue whatsoever
