Irreversible modification problems

I've recently made an attempt to Modify Vanilla SMAC. (I might tackle SMAX next if I can get some issues fixed.)

I edited the alpha.txt so that populations require 3 nutrients, food sources give some more output, growth is slower, research is slower, industry is faster, effectiveness and costs of units are higher, and many things now have different prerequisites and production costs.

I also used the Faction Editor on each of the original seven factions. They got an extra talent for every four citizens, except for the Peacekeepers (extra talent for every two citizens instead) and the University (remove extra drones instead of gaining extra talents). I also made it so they'd each start with two techs except for the Peacekeepers (which get to pick their second tech upon landing) and the University (which now get to pick two free techs upon landing).

The effects changed the game rules to admirable levels, but also changed the graphics. Morgan, Yang, Santiago, Miriam, and their respective factions now all look like Deidre and the Gaians.

I tried reinstalling. The graphics were not fixed. I tried uninstalling, then reinstalling. The graphics still weren't fixed. I tried uninstalling, deleting the folder, restarting my computer, and reinstalling a third time. And Morgan, Yang, Santiago, and Miriam still all look like Deidre. I even then tried manually moving the files into the newly recreated folder, except for the ones that were in deeper folders. And still nothing.

I know the graphics files show the Morganites, Hive, Spartans, and Believers as they should be. So the issue is that the files aren't being read. I don't know why not. The .txt files in use are the originals, now. And I don't know what else may have been edited. Or how.

Anyway, my plan... E... is to seek help from others on the internet that might supply some tip that could get this problem fixed. So, here I am. ^^; Any help would be appreciated.

I may also want to mention that my computer runs Windows Vista.

Thanks.

I know that you said that you deleted the SMAC folder after one of your uninstalls, but something must have been left behind. Try manually deleting all SMAC files (including any new folders that you created) and then reinstall.

Deleting the SMAC folder should have additionally deleted all the SMAC files. Except maybe the ones in the Start Menu.

But looking through there could provide insight on how to fix that issue. Thanks. :D

In any case, I have come up with a solution of my own. I slightly renamed the files of the affected factions, and adjusted where such file names are mentioned in both alpha.txt and alphax.txt

So far, so good. ^^
