Is “score” a worthwhile indicator of anything?

I’ve got 4 games under my belt now (with my 5th one underway) and have two victories, 1 science and 1 domination. It always seems like I’m middle of the pack Score-wise, except towards the middle and end game of my domination victory, where I was well ahead. Is score any kind of reliable indicator of general in-game progress? Or is it mostly meaningless? Are you guys frequently ahead in score while playing Prince (what I usually play)? How about higher difficulties?

It's a general measure of your empires strength. So generally a higher score will be in a better position. It means much more in multiplayer where players can leverage their advantage better.

In single player it's possible to win on deity while having the lowest score since as a player you are much smarter at min/maxing the different victory conditions. So unless your going for score victory or playing multiplayer, its largely meaningless
