Is AI any smarter in higher difficulty (DG and up)?

Hi all,

I play a lot in Emperor, but sometimes, I try my hand at Demigod. It seems to me that the AI is smarter in DG, at least in terms of city placement...they do a lot more 4x4 placement (is that the term? I forgot ... cxxc placement) while in Emperor, there's always a lot loose placement (though not of the kind you see in lower levels )

Anyone else with these experiences??

Yes, maybe. Given the case that the AI actually does settle closer at all. It could easily be that the settling just appears to be closer because of the much better improved land and because of the larger city graphics that you'll get to see more often and sooner.

Conquests Difficulty Levels:
Demi-God - between Emperor and Deity, Demi-God AIs have a cost factor of .7 (meaning things cost 70% for them), 3 starting offensive units, 6 starting defensive units, 1 bonus settler, 2 bonus workers, 12 free unit support plus 3 per city, max anarchy of 2 turns, 160 AI-AI trade ratio, human has 25% bonus vs. barbs and human has 70% of the normal OCN

Sid - beyond Deity, Sid AIs have a cost factor of .4, 6 starting offensive units, 12 starting defensive units, 2 bonus settlers, 4 bonus workers, 24 free unit support plus 8 per city, max anarchy of 1 turn, 200 AI-AI trade ratio, human has 0% bonus vs. barbs and human has 50% of the normal OCN

Right, there are differences, but but they are bonuses... the AI isn't actually smarter about how it goes about anything. I suppose you could make a case that perhaps the AI-AI trade increase is smarter, but beyond that it's really just bonuses and the effects of that affluency.

AI Intelligence level is the same, they just get better bonuses and less restrictions as the levels rise.
