Is Beyond the Sword easier than vanilla Civ IV...?

I hope so, because I sucked at Civ IV. I played team games against the AI many times, and won once. And that time, I didn't get tanks until something like 1980.

Default. It's a rule of mine: if I can't play using standard settings, then I have no business playing!

I started at settler and worked my way up, i went down a difficulty level when i got BTS

BTS:
- Vassals
- Anti-tank
- Mobile SAM + Mobile Artillary
- Missiles + Missile Cruisers
- Tactical Nukes

Vanilla:
- Siege can kill during attack
- 230483209480 air units can stack in one town
- Easier to get Stealth Bombers (no Advanced Flight, no Stealth)
- Tanks have collateral damage

Very generally, war is harder in BTS, but it's easier to keep up in tech. Maybe this just applies to emperor+ though, I don't know.

Then you're missing out on some of the joy because you're constantly being beaten up and mauled. Move down a bit and learn the game, then move up. The game should be fun, not frustrating. :)

@OP, BTS is indeed easier than vanilla on the higher levels. The AI bonuses are smaller and so are the penalties for the human. The AI in BTS, however, is a big improvement over the one in the other 2 versions, especially when it comes to its behavior in war times. I don't know the exact reference, but I've heard that people involved in the Better AI project for warlords helped program the AI in BTS.

I totally agree. When I decided to take up boxing, rather than do some work on the bag, I just walked up to someone in the boxing gym and challenged them to a fight. Ten fights later and I still can't figure out why I keep getting laid out in the first round each time!

Anyone know if kickboxing is easier?
