seems like after i switched to communism my education levels keep droping even if i build a research lab and the scientific wonders

EDIT: I notice now you said "education levels" do you mean "literacy?" what the stats at the [F7] screen say? literacy could go down because you conquer/build more and more cities, that have not yet build literacy improving improvements.
--------

The whole thing is a matter of empire management.
Communism isn't bad per-see It depends on a lot of factors.

Though the general consensus is that, if you manage your empire well from turn 1, you'll likely be using republic, and likely set up your empire so that republic works best. Then if you want to use communism, you'll have to remodel your whole empire.

Potentially, communism is able to produce more commerce, (and thus science) than any other government, but it is unlikely you'll be in that situation.

One of the most important things to do in communism is to build a courthouse in all cities, including your capital and forbidden palace. (and do build that FP, and the Secret Police Headquarters too)

Switching to Commie in and of itself is going to hurt your science output.

But it might be that if the communism allows you to develop large numbers of cities that would otherwise be entirely corrupt, for example building marketplaces for happiness and a temple for cultural border expansion in each conquered town, the overall effect might be more science. Because you would have all your citizens producing instead of clowning, and you would have more citizens in total due to the additional food production. Especially true with the cop and engineer specialists allowing more micro management options.

Thats why I love the civ games, you can play them in endlessly different ways, figuring out which strategy works best to acheive which goal. Sometimes, for me, the goal is just to do something in a different way from what I have done in the past.

Well ONCEyou switch to Communism it is bad for science in fact one game I was playing I was a Commie and my friend (MULTIPLAYER GAME GENTLEMEN!) had a higher science rate when I was in Communism (WHEN I FIRST BECAME A COMMIE)...like about 7 turns till tech... but later on In the game I had a higher science rate... like about 4 turns till tech and my friend had 6 turns till tech... anyways the point it at the beggining Communism is bad for your tech.. and later on it gets ALOT better....
PS: Did I mention all the Techs my friend got while I was still in Anarchy?... bout 2...

well, what i mean was the literacy rate i guess (the little purple flask in the city info box) for example in my capital i have a library, university, research center and both wonders that double you sci output....yet its only at 42
also my economy keeps going down even though i have built all the + economy things (marketplace, bank, stock exchange, trading company, wall street, etc....)
basicly at the moment its taking me 22 turns to research rocketry while @ -145 coin a turn....

is it because of comunism? what government would you recomend?

...What Percent was your Purple Flask on?... .... 22 turns?! IS your Civ. Even big?.... -145 is bad... but hey You might have had alot of Science invested or Luxury... Probably it was too high... like I keep mine at 50% - 100%... Probably 70% and I still get profit... You Probably just had a small Civ.

Upload a save. Or get CivAssistII, and you can change the governments around there, and see the different outcomes.

I do not think your choice of government is the main problem.

If you have problems during the industrial age, it is usually because of an accumulation of mistakes made in earlier turns.

For a normal epic game vs the AI I'd advice to switch from Despotism to Republic in the Ancient Age and stay in Republic for the rest of your game. Model your empire so that your republic works the most efficient.

However, you may not have played the game in the earlier turns the same way I would have, so I can't really say if in your current situation Republic works best.

Upload a saved game and people on this forum can tell what could be done to make things better. And we could also tell you what you could do better in the earlier turns of your next game.

Probably not enough roads. Basically, every tile in your empire should end up roaded, except maybe some mountains, jungle and swamp tiles.

Communism is not a great research government - you dont' get teh commerce bonus and the effects of the science doubling wonders goes down.

Spies are better, though, so stealing techs works out well ;)

...yeah... probably its not the gov. but Communism gives less Commerce at the beginning but more production :goodjob: .... umm ... oo yeah in 1 game I had a city at 26 in Monarchy and it said it wont grow anymore... but later on in Communism it got all the way to 29... soo I guess more food then?... or maybe its just a coincedence...

my country is HUGE!, i think that might have something to do with it, ill try to up a save a.s.a.p.
thanks alot
