I am a bit scared that an AI player in my game will still be able to win a diplo victory after I take their capital. Is this possible or will they just not be able to win anymore?

Also dont know if im posting this in the right area of this website, so sorry if this post should go somewhere else.

They can still win. Another city becomes their capital and they can motor on (crippled a bit, of course, but their gold stack (if any) and their relationships with other civs and CSs will be unaffected).

it is still possible to win a diplo victory if u got a Capital of a other AI
but probobly u won't win on the first vote since u have a huge warmonger penalty so u won't be able to bribe the AI to vote for u

All u need is FP + WR +WI + GLobal + many CS

I have lots of gold, so can I buy their city state allies away? Or do I have to kill the city states?

Also I have 5 diplomates 4 other civs have 3-4 and the one I am worried about has 15. I just assumed that majority wins but is that the case?

On standard map, you need all 16 CS plus either one of FP, WR, WI to win at the first WL vote. You need 1 fewer CS for every additional FP/WR/WI you have. If you have globalization, you need 2/3 fewer CS. For every captured/conquered CS, you'll need one additional vote.

Yes, but you cannot bribe a CS while at war with them. For diplo VC, you typically want to be at peace with everyone so that you can ally all the CS. Plus, if you are war, that is one less civ that you can send a diplomat to.

No, a simple majority is not enough, not even close. If you have enough gold, make peace and bribe every CS to be your ally. Game over, you win!

Have you researched Globalization? Otherwise, diplomats do not help with World Leader vote. If you can recall a civ to life, they will vote for you as World Leader, so that is four votes for each civ you recall to life.

Emphasis added. After the first vote, assuming you get the majority, WL vote gets easier because you earn 2 extra votes each time.

Sorry but having a senior moment over here.
FP np lol.
What are WI and and WR?
Thanks.

WI = World Ideology
WR = World Religion

Both provide 2 bonus delegates if you follow them. (Note: The WR has to be the majority religion in a majority of your cities to provide the delegates.)
