Is it possible to randomize all game settings?

I'm the kind of person that finds it more interesting to start a game with as much randomization as possible. I usually pick as many random options as I can, including civilization/leader and see how I can adapt to the cards Im dealt. I know you can randomize number of civs, barbarian activity and stuff like that. However, there doesn't seem to be a built in randomization for map type and size.

Has anyone come across any modifications or anything like that which can do this?

I was pretty sure you can randomize the map size... But besides that yea just leader and civilization I think are the only other randoms..

I like doing random too and wish it would randomize more.

At present you can't randomise map type, just all the map settings and leaders etc. Victory conditions are also fixed.

The nearest you can get to a completely random map is to use the (excellent) tilted axis script, or possibly a custom map script like the one currently linked from the main page of the site which aims to replicate tectonic plate movements' effects.

I don't mind selecting the map size to start, but I *really* love to have a random map type, so that it's not automatic which type of map you are playing. Does anyone have any ideas on how perhaps to set the ini files, or is there a mod in process allowing randomization of map type? It's a very important part of the gaming experience, imho.

And cIV rocks!! :goodjob:

You can't do it ingame that I know of. I downloaded this random number generator http://www.saccenti.com/randomnumber/randomnumber.htm and use it to randomly select map type (1 for first choice on menu, 2 for second etc.)

You guys should check out the C&C forums. There's a few of us who have worked on such things. Myself and Fallblau have each made our own random map scripts, and Junuxx has made a handy map generator.

There's always the old fashioned method. Open a book at random and count the number of letters in the first three words you point to. Then count off those number of letters into whatever is being randomized. You're still picking it manually, but it's just as random. If you counted off nine letters and you have 5 options, your 4th option would be your choice in this case.

I used to enjoy playing random maps in Civ3. It felt like I was really exploring. Was I on an island? Was that a lake or the ocean. When you know its a pan or continent befire you start, it takes away a little piece of the puzzle.

Exactly. It would be great to have such an option in CivIV, just the sort of thing to add in an expansion pack or even the next patch (hint, hint).
