So I made a map and figured how to load it ("load scenario" thing). Everything works as intended, put the starting positions for civs and CS and assigned each civ and CS to their starting positions. Here is the question: How can I make it so there won't be predefined civs, but instead civs would be random and spawn on starting positions that I made. I mean so they would only spawn on starting positions that I placed, but be random every time? I'm fine with predefined CS, but I want different civs in every game, BUT on those fixed positions (except for player 1 - me, who has it's own fixed starting position no matter what). The problem is as I see it, I must pick how many and which civs in the description which then assign them in team 2, 3 etc, but I can't pick "random".

So is there a way to do it and how? I'm lost here... :(

Also a small question: what is wrong with the great barrier riff? It looks funny on my map.

Oh and what's with some river tiles? I get some river tiles that don't, um, register as river tiles.

You should be able to assign random start positions on maps (that is, no need to make it a scenario). The Edit Plot tab in World Builder allows you to pick "Random Player" and "Random City State" for the starting point types.

So in the description I just assign myself to the starting position I want and delete others? I still need the civ I'm playing to be on one fixed starting position. If I just ignore the description altogether, then I can't place my (player 1) starting position, just random player... ???

When I edit a scenario, it still has "Random Player" and "Random City State" listed under the start point options, before it lists the specific civilizations... does yours not show them? I'm able to do a mix of pre-set start points (e.g. "America") and random start points.

Yes, but what should I do in scenario editor? I mean... bare with me here please, as I try to explain. :) I mean let's say I want to play Rome on certain starting position. In order to do that I must chose Rome as player 1 in scenario editor and then place player 1 on that starting position in edit tile option, right? Now let's say I want 3 other random civs to appear on those 3 other starting positions. Do I simply put "random player" on edit tile? What about the scenario editor? Do I not have to pick 3 civs here in order for them to appear? Do I just leave 1 team (me - player 1) in there? Won't there be only one civ in the game then? After all I have to "load scenario" in order to be Rome on that starting position, right?

I just tested to be sure, but putting in all the civilizations seems to work fine. The main thing to remember is that it seems to autocalc the number of minor civs based on the map size, and if you don't place the minor civ spawn points (or place any of the spawn points too close together), then it will ignore the spawn points you've set and calculate new ones instead.
