Is it possible to get stealth by the 1990's? It's 2304 and I've only had stealth for a few years! I can't seem to advance fast enough! Help?!

I have had Synthetic Fibers - Modern Armor, one step away from Stealth, since 1800. I have chosen to go after other techs, but I have researched two others since then. It is now 1822, and my modern armor is rolling over the Japanese tanks(a technology that they would not have had, had I not given them it to fight against a shared enemy previously).

Playing Monarch on a huge map. I am about 4 techs ahead of my closest competitor in science. It would not be that close, but I am greedy and have traded them techs... This German World Domination business is expensive.

Two things contributed to my success, being on a continent with only three other civs out of a total of 16, I researched the path the AI doesn't normally take. I went straight for democarcy in the middle ages. I didn't have contact with the 12 other civs until I had democarcy and had also discovered navigation. When I finally had contact, it was a GREAT day in the German Reich. I had about 7 techs to sell/trade to 12 civs. In that process I also received their techs in trade- engineering, invenention, gunpowder and chemistry which I traded 2 of those to the 2 remaining civs. I didn't want them to have Gun Powder, since I was about to roll through their country with knights and soon calvary.

The biggest thing to save my butt, back in the day of Germany being a fledgeling civ. Those dang Persians decided they wanted to go to war with me. Me? I couldn't believe it, are they crazy? I am the war monger on this continent. I start pumping out Swordsmen. Swordsmen get slaughtered by Immortals. I start pumping out spearmen and rush research Mathematics. Immortals, Immortals, Immortals everywhere... I attack out of my city with Swordsmen after catapult bombardment, the only way to kill an immortal, but those swordsmen would not survive the next wave. My situation very grave. I have won two cities, lost only one, but 4 of my cities are under serious attack, when I get a message that I have just recived a new supply of iron. As we all know that means somewhere else on the map a source of iron had been "used up" randomly and it was relocated. In one turn I went from having to worry about how I was going to survive, to which Persian city do my swordsmen want to go after next. You see I got lucky. On a huge map and the persians only occupying 1/20th of the map, that resource of iron came from within their territory. Their only iron resource. Persian archers, horsemen and spearmen are very mortal as it turns out... and the Persian civ perished... <tear, sob> <laughing>
