Is it Possible?

I have Civ 4 Gold and its not letting me install BtS becuase it cant download a patch. I was wondering if i should take BtS and get my money back or can i install it?

Thanks but i didnt find the file i need to change. any idea where its at?

you will unfortunately need to change the windows registry - this is not without dangers.
Before doing so: set a system restore point:
In windows XP click start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Utilities -> System Restore

and use that program to set a system restore point

then click on start -> run -> type regedit -> hit enter -> in the program that opens search for the key that needs to be changed and do so - if it does work as expected all is fine - if not use the system restore program to undo your changes.

when i open it i get a whole list of programs. i mean it like my whole computer compes up. Which file am i specifcly looking for?

the windows registry is there to register all programs - so it is large - and it is not really intended for manual changes, but:

click on the + sign next to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then on the + sign next to
SOFTWARE
then on the + sign next to
Firaxis Games
this should then list
Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Gold
click on the + sign next to it and among others it should list
1.72
right click on that and click on rename then rename it to 1.74
also right click on
Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Gold
and chose rename and rename it to
Sid Meier's Civilization 4
this should allow you to install BtS:
Note: DO NOT do so without setting a system restore point first - any error in manual regedits can cause your operating system to cease booting!

i did all that and i still get the error report
