I bought gold edition almost a year ago. I see that most of the mods are for BTS. My question is: Is Beyond the Sword really $30 better that warlords? I have read about many new features that sound great in print but a person cant really tell if they will be worth it with out trying it. I am going to school in the fall and working on getting a better car now so chances to buy new games are few and far between. On top of that I always worry about buying a new game then having an newer version come out shortly after (AOE3 for $50, couple months later I could have gotten AOE3 and Warchiefs for $40).

There shouldn't be any more expansion packs coming out for Civ IV. Firaxis has been working on Civ Revolutions, and I'll bet dollars to dingos (huh?) that they're going to start working on Civ V.

As to your first question: YES! BTS is definitely worth $30 if you have it available. If you need a car and this is going to f**k that up, then just wait till you have the car, lol. But it is definitely worth it.

For the new changes see http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/bts
Between all the new units that make the Modern Era fun, new leaders and options. Its def worth it IMO

It's definitely worth it. Imho, BtS is the most substantial expansion that the Civ franchise ever had (and I have all of them available for comparison).

If you tell us which additions specifically wet your appetite, we could probably tell you whether they turned out to work as well as you hoped. :)

BTS is better than a car and much better than Warlords.

IMHO, $30 doesn't make much difference in the price of a car unless there is a % bonus like each parent matches the contribution by say 50% (like a cathedral) then with Mom, Step-dad, Dad, Step-mom, Dad's first ex-wife, Mom's Boyfriend (100% here but only available with nationalism); well that's a 350% modifier so your looking at $105 towards the car. So I guess even there it's better to spend the money on BTS.

Save your money. BTS is like crack. If you don't buy it, you'll stay up nights studying and writing papers instead, maybe even dating on the weekends sometimes as you should be.:nono:

Now if you're looking for something that gives you many hours of entertainment for the dollar , BTS is the ticket.:woohoo:

BtS is worth the money. it has lots of awesome new units and such plus vassal states, great generals and all the leaders and civs from warlords

I got CIV IV about a year after its release for $20 (used) @ EBGames, Warlords for ~$20 from Amazon, and BTS for ~$20 from Walmart.

Amazon has BTS listed at $20... not 30, and if you trip around the web you might find it cheaper.

BtS is well worth getting, as it adds vastly more than Warlords did (as a matter of fact it contains everything except the scenarios from Warlords).

Trust me, you won't need a better car if you play BTS, in fact, you won't need a car at all!:mischief:

It's like football is better than the sex :D

A car is better than BTS. Good sex is better than BTS. BTS is better than mediocre sex.

That said, I would support the claim that BTS is the most substantial expansion pack that this franchise has ever produced. Additionally, I support the claim that a newer addition to the franchise on the PC format is not going to be available for much more than a year (there will clearly be no more expansions, and no civ 5 before 2010).

That, too, being said, you will find an investment in a game of this nature to be well-invested in terms of entertainment, but overall poor, since you will be robbing yourself of culture, self-improvement, social interaction, education, and time spent doing much more worthwhile activities. Computer games are evil, as is crack.
