Chess is a primitive game played by many great thinkers to train their mind in planning and critical problem solving skills (and also for fun). With the advent of modern computer technology and the popularity of video games, it is only natural that a new game evolved for the enjoyment of the intellectual. Civilization 4 can be compared to an infinitely more complicated and intricate version of chess. So, do you think that , being able to play civ, being interested in it, and most importantly being good at it is linked to a relatively high IQ? Give me your opinions on this theory.

As a side note, I am not trying to toot my own horn, or make my ePenis grow bigger by telling every one on the internet how smart I think I am. I am not full of my self, please don't be full of YOUR self when you answer. :D

If it's just a joke: Yes, definitely.

If it's half-joke: no.

If it's not a joke: definitely no no no.

Now feel free to call me anything you want for writing this.

Yes, to some extent.

Actually, I think playing civ is probably more linked to one's monomaniacal desires to rule the world than to one's IQ...

No, but people with shorter attention spans will most likely not play Civlization IV. So I wouldn't argue that it's linked to people with higher intelligence, but people with more patience. This doesn't necessarily equate to a higher average intelligence, but it certainly could.

There are some dull knives that post on the Civilization IV forum.

Well, if you become a leader after being able to beat the CPU on Deity mode 5 times in a row on Duel, Marathon, and you didn't use WorldBuilder I SUPPOSE it could help with decision making.

Did you edit your post? I could have sworn it said the opposite

I think it can help develop your problem solving skills and I would call it educational. But it won't help you pass algebra.

It may matter for someone's ego (no offence) but seriously how can being able to win an Diety with Shaka and Monty as neighbours increase your ability of solving problems in real life? I don't want to complain but there is just to much luck involved in this game (yes, yes I'm talking about RNG).

Well, in any case it's better than playing GTA3 or that Tupac game.

Yeah, I think I wrote isn't when I meant is. I edited in a ninja edit, though, so you shouldn't have noticed it.

You could say more or less the same thing about Magic: The Gathering, which is a far more complex and superior game to chess or indeed CivIV... :mischief: runs away

True. I am as dull as they come.

On a serious note, I agree with Jerrymander that attention span has more to do with it than anything else. People with no patience will never appreciate civ, no matter how intelligent they may be. Civ is a fairly complex game though, so I think we can safely assume that in order to become good you must have at least an average or maybe good intelligence.

Bah, humbug!

BTW, there isn't more complicated (as a game, not rules) and superior game than chess (IMHO, of course).
