Is the "track progress" checkbox in the legacy paths supposed to stay ticked?

I haven't posted this in the bugs area because i'm not sure it is one.
In the four legacy path screens there is a "track progress" checkbox that you can tick to get cliff notes on the left hand side of the game screen to remind you about what you're supposed to be doing as your next step on that legacy path.
The problem is that when you achieve the milestone partway along the path to completing the legacy path the "track progress" checkbox unticks itself and you have to go back in and re-tick it for the next milestone.
Is it supposed to be like that? I would have thought the track progress box would stay ticked for the entire journey along the legacy path.

This is not something I have ever experienced, confirming the worst- it is a bug, and a mysterious one at that :(

If you have the tutorial on, when you complete part of a legacy path it asks if you want to keep tracking it and if you say no then it unchecks the box, so it probably has something to do with that.

Yes I have this problem it's permanent. I'd say probably a bug, but I've learnt to live with it

I just recheck the box

I think it's working as designed, once you complete your milestone you have to actively decide if you want to track the next one.

I think it’s another case of UI not knowing what it’s actually supposed to show you. Clicking on the “Track progress” checkbox, located in the same area as the legacy end goal, you’d think that you’d be keeping track of the entire path. But if you go to the game screen after that, you’ll see that the “quest log” is actually tracking your progress for the nearest legacy milestone, and NOT the end goal. So of course the log disappears after you achieve it.

One of the following is happening right now:
1. The “Track progress” checkbox is misleading and was always meant to only track the nearest milestone - even though its current placement strongly suggests tracking of the final end goal.
2. The “Track progress” checkbox is indeed supposed to track the final end goal, but the quest log is not functioning that way and only tracks the nearest milestone.
3. Both are supposed to be true: we were supposed to track the end goal, with the quest log dynamically updating to the next objective as you complete the current one. But this is not currently happening.

This is the answer. If you have the "I have never played a videogame before in my life" tutorial on, the objective tracking flows naturally; you get a pop-up telling you that you finished it, and asking whether you want to track the next one. If you switch tutorial level to warnings only, the objective tracking breaks, because they've linked it to the wrong thing. There is also a secondary bug, where the tracking will stay stuck on the earliest incomplete stage, even if you complete later one, and it will track multiple steps simultanously, like here for example:
