Is there any way to stop my heir from dying?

In my current game, my heir, Mernit dies before reaching the age of 18.

I am trying to get the Ethnic Diversity achievement and she is the only heir with four nationalities (so three more generations minimum). I just want her to live long enough to have a foreign marriage and produce an heir (preferably more than one) with five nationalities.

I have a save where she is 10 years old. No matter what I do, she always seems to die by or before the age of 18. Sometimes she is poisoned by another country. Sometimes she just randomly dies at the start of a turn. I have played from age 10 several times now, and sometimes she dies at age 13 and sometimes at age 18.

Is she just predetermined to die somehow? Is there a hidden variable that forces her to die?

I have attached the save game on turn 66 when she is 10 years old. Take a look and see. If you manage to get her past the age of 18, please let me know what you did, or better yet, share your save file.

That is the event that most often kills her, but not always on the same turn. I'm not sure if perhaps the genesis of the event may have started already in the save on turn 66. Then, sometimes, she dies from a different event.

:mischief:

PS: she's also infertile.

Where do you see that she is infertile?

From the save file.

Editing out the infertile line makes the save invalid. Is there any other way to remove this?

Using the save your posted, turn 66, Just deleting the whole infertile line works for me. Make sure to delete the whole line, and just the whole line. Also, use a pure text editor like Notepad and not a processor like Word which adds lots of crap to the header of the file. Don't re-zip it, just leave it straight up as an xml and load the xml file from the Single Player -> Load Game menu.

That is what I did, and it said the file was invalid. I managed to get the Knowledge of the Ancients achievement out of this one.

I decided to start a new game. 50 turns in and it is going pretty well so far.

I never did figure out why the good, infertile, princess had such a penchant for dying in the save on turn 66. Any ideas?

My guess would be down to the rng seed. It was always going to happen.
