Is this a Caricature?

Somebody told me that some of the redheads were caricatures of Sid Meier and his partner. Does anybody know if that is true?

The scientist in Civ1 and some later version (I forget which) looked like Sid but the ones in Civ2 have little resemblance as far as I can tell.
