I just did a naval invasion of China from a different landmass. I am attacking from both sides. On the main side of mass invasion I get my land units next to shore and China attacks them with knights. I can see ranged units attacking of course, but melee units attacking into water tiles,?
Then on the other side where China is sending its counter invasion I have 2 ships over there to pick off units crossing. They basically surround my boats with units and refuse to die. I was basically shooting them with privateers and they would heal back up. It wasn't until I leveled up to 2 attacks that I could reasonably sink their army crossing the water. This is very different from what I am used to from all the previous Civ games.
