island spawning event

It's my understanding that if there is no space for the Infernals to spawn, they won't spawn. Is there a way to create an event where, after the game checks to see if there is any current land space, 4 or 5 land tiles spawn out of ocean tiles for the Infernals to create a city or two on?
And if this is possible, is an Atlantis type event possible? Sometime mid-game a number of tiles (enough room for a couple cities or so with some awesome bonus tiles) and a highly advanced barbarian city would spawn. That would be my guess on how this event could work.
Has this type stuff been brought up before?

Thanks. I'm not intimate with the inner workings of this game so i'm not sure if it's possible. Also, i'm not advocating a new civ, just a barbarian city with access to higher than normal units (champions, horse archers, etc.) a little earlier. And if that is difficult, just a city with a higher pop and access to some great bonus yield tiles.
Or a sea monster to guard it? :crazyeye:

An event could look for a space in the ocean, create a single tile of land and place a city on it with a unique building that improves yield from ocean & coast tiles. Put up an announcement that <cityname> has risen and promises great rewards to the one who conquers it, drop in a few defensive units, And you have a new home for Sailor's Dirge.

The only real problem with your idea is that naval invasions tend not to work. So you'll probably end up with Hyborem on an island that he never leaves.

And this problemalso applies to the other ideas in this vein.

Well, in my version Hyborem Himself can fly, so it wouldn't be that bad.

Also, what would people think of making water tiles have a hell version that is land? I think that changing water to land at the same point as other terrains change is a bad idea, but if oceans evaporated at, say, plot counter of 95 then this would mean that expanding infernal territory would create the land it needs to expand and conquer. Of course, it would also mean that they could never build a navy. (Unless you made their "navy" consist entirely of flying ships...I had trouble with these before, but I just realized that making these ships be DOMAIN_LAND while leaving them UNITCOMBAT_NAVAL and giving the Flying would probably solve all these issues.)

The AI is actually prety good with navies in Orbi Modmod (most of which will be included in my modmod)

way cool idea, allthough the ai doesnt handle navies yet, so it wouldnt come much into play untill that works.

But you could make it spawn land-locked, if that can be coded at all.

That would certainly give OO even more reason to stop hell.

It'd be kind of neat to start having the oceans boil away as hell approached closer and closer, slowly creating more landmass.

this started as a simple idea for me, but now was evolved (devolved?) into thoughts of demonic swimming units that spawn during the event. maybe even the tiles spawn on floating ice tiles?
demonic polar bears and penguins? mwa ha ha!!! kidding...

What would happen then? I'm thinking that after moving to BtS land units on water ties (and water units on land tiles) without water walking get ejected to the nearest land tile (excluding those owned by civs with whom you don't have open borders), but not immediately. Normally it happens at the end of the turn (or beginning of the next turn, I'm not sure), but it also seems like it gets updated if any unit in its stack engages in combat.

One big problem could be if a city was built on this land tile, and then the plot counter was brought back down. I'm thinking that would delete the city. Of course, it is possible to make this land not allow cities anyway, just to be safe. Unless you think it is ok for a Life I adept to be able to completely destroy cities like that...

What would we call the "boiled away" ocean? I'm thinking something like "The Bare Abyss" would be cool. Not sure what the coasts should be.

Would it be possible to make this land appear to be at a much lower elevation than most?

pretty cool idea. instead of the ground rising, the oceans boil to reveal the demonic gate on the ocean floor below. you;d just have to have demonic sea creatures and sea weed and singing crabs about how life under the sea is better.
or is that part of the movie "the little mermaid?" i forget.
cool idea though.

I like both ideas here in this thread. If one wanted to go Lovecraftian (or Moorcockian, for that matter), a risen island of the dead with OO / Aifon associations would make a nice event / quest chain at some point... and the boiling oceans idea for the Armageddon Counter is just cool.

For an interesting game experience play on an archipelago map and replace all water with desert. Takes a long time to do manually in worldbuilder; I really should look into how to do it with Python or map script hacking to make it easier so I can try this again. (I did it using regular civ, haven't tried with FfH)
