Civ IV after 3 hours of playing it stacks or it throws me out.

However i don't know if this is a bug or it happens because the overloading of the proccessor and memory.

(1GB o fmemory isnt enough to play with flexibility in the late game when you have 12 players in a huge map!

You can't minimize and maximize civ IV enough flexibly and also play without slow moving!)

Civ 4 seems to suffer from memory leaks, so it will slow down to the crashing point eventually. Even a gig of memory won't stop this, though it will slow it down.

I have a GB of memory of course. I was talking of having 2 GB of memory

Having 2gb of memory won't cure the problem. I have 2gb of memory with a AMD64 3200+ and the game still crashes from time to time. I've reduced the frequency of the crashes by playing on small to tiny maps. There must be a rather large memory leak in the game.

There is a major memory problem, its not a leak as such but just very poor management. A "patch" had been developed by a forum member, you can get it and read about it here.

This is not an official patch but many users have reported good results by using it. The developers know about the problem and it has been reported that they are working on an official patch that does the same thing but it is not out yet.

That's great for those who know how to access their computers and folders. But for someone like me who is afraid of modifying their programs because he worries about damaging them, it does not help very much.

With all due respect, Arctic860, if your game isn't working correctly, then what's the harm in trying the patch? You can always reinstall the game if things didn't work out. What other programs are you worried about damaging?

Because I do not have the knowledge to fix something if I do damage it by experimenting around with game files. One should have thought that Firaxis would have made a better game so that their fan base would not have resort to hacking into their own games to fix critical problems. This game has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I think they risk alienating their fan base. It is not my job to hack into a program that I pay for, and should work on my computer. So that is why I am not and cannot try this patch.

Worse case scenerio is you'll have to reinstall the game.. No 'hacking' necessary.

Just copy the contents of the file over to Civ directory and you're done... Should hopefully remedy the majority of your problem. You cannot permanently damage your system by doing this.
