Ivory graphics

Hey guys

I had a small suggestion about ivory. Seeing as ivory in FfH seems to represent more of an elephant's graveyard than a supply of elephants, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to make it look different from normal civ ivory.

War elephants cannot be build using just ivory; you need actual elephants to do this. So it makes sense to me that the ivory resource will not actually consist of elephants.

If the graphics looked more like a small collection of bones or something, this would also make the Dragon Bones look less silly. Although they look very cool at the moment, the random elephant wandering around detracts from the novelty a little. If default ivory used a different graphic, then the dragon bones would still look as they intended :)

Any thoughts on this?

For once? :p

Didn't realise my opinions were that unpopular

Still, I'm gald you agree :)

If you did a change like this, wouldn't it also be prudent to change the harvesting resource from a camp to, say, a quarry? I'd actually like that, as is, quarries have little purpose except to harvest marble, a somewhat uncommon resource.

I always thought that ivory resource should spawn random elephants, like den. Or we could remove ivory completely and keep just the elephants?

No because you need Ivory for Bone golems as well. Unless, I guess what you could do is just make bone golems a Luchuirp UU war elephant, then make elephants be able to upgrade to them too.

But if it is changed I think it definately should be quarried. Also, does anyone think marble should be a luxury resource? Marble statues, tiles, ornaments etc.

Yeah a quarry would make a lot of sense (well at least more than a camp lol).

I think ivory should definately be kept in the game because it is an interesting resource.

Also, I can see marble acting as a luxury resource. Any other thoughts on this? :)

how about making elephants able to build an elephant camp or something inside of a city that supplies ivory and gives the ability to build elephants (there not national units or really all that great anymore so why not let them be built?) then you can still get the happy bonus from ivory, a decent calvary unit, and it will free up space on the map for reagents (which would have been very nice to have in my last amurite game)
then while on the subject make silk only come from the spider pen building

That could work, but I like elephants how they are. War elephants are the ultimate cavelry killers :)

My main issue is about the graphics, and possible use of ivory in the game.

Also, spiders being the only thing to produce silk would be odd, seeing as silk worms are real life animals.

Maybe spider pens could produce a seperate resource (spider silk), which could act as a luxary. Or it could give +1 defense to all units built in that city (spider silk armour) :)

i mostly think it should only come from a building to reduce the number of map resources so you get a fair chance of getting the rarer resources

Hmm, an elephant's graveyard? :)

True, but Giant Spiders aren't real life animals, so there's no particular reason to believe that silk worms even exist on Erebus. I'm fairly certain it's got plants that don't use photosynthesis.

Yeah photosyntheis doesn't exist on erebus, I don't know why. I think they channel nature mana to grow instead.

It didn't exist in one of Kaels campaigns, because if it had then Tebryn's Armageddon spell that stopped the sun from rising for a few years would have made everyone starve to death. A lot of FfH is based on that campaign, but since that particular event has not happened (at lest yet) in FfH's official history, it doesn't necessarily mean that there in no photosynthesis. It could also be that plants can rely on multiple means of generating energy, or that there was some divine intervention from Sucellus or Cernunnos to sustain them.

Er, if the sun isn't rising, isn't photosynthesis only one of your issues? I mean, isn't the bone-shattering cold a pretty big issue on its - what the hell am I talking about. It's magic!

I usually think of fantasy as having a full complement of real world creatures PLUS more :)

Silk worms, and maybe even some dinosaurs :D
