So there are two civs with this unique unit, right?
Illian and Doviello. Is there any difference between the two?
I noticed lately that:
- Doviello Javelin costs more hammers (93 to Illian 60),
- you cannot upgrade Beastman to Javelin, as opposed to Illian warriors.

Is there anything special about the Doviello Javelin Throwers. The AI seems to like it, more than Sons of Asena even.

To my knowledge, Doviello javelins are not very good and doviello usually tech bronze working early.

However, I tend to use Illian ones as I tech archery early with illians anyway.

The difference between Javelin Throwers and Archers is thus:
Archers have 3/5 strength, cost 60 hammers (iirc) and require an Archery Range to be built.
Javelin Throwers have 4 strength, cost 90 hammers (iirc) and do not require any special buildings.

Other than that they are pretty much identical in both other stats (hill and city defense) as well as use (defending).

Actually, Javelin Throwers (Illian) do require an archery range I think. It is just that the Doviello dont require buildings for most of their units.

I rechecked and both Javelin throwers cos the same amount of hammers (60). Yet unlike Illians, the Doviello cannot ugrade warriors to Javelin Throwers.
The upgrade to Javelin costs 93 gold though, unlike upgrade to archer which is 53, just like to axeman.
I know Javelin's stats. I was wondering if Doviello's Javelins differed from Illian ones.

They cost 90 hammers on base Ffh2. It that what you're using?

I play Tholal's More Naval AI mod. And on quick speed, therefore 60 hammers.
I guess there is no difference between either Javelin. The fact that beastman are not upgradable to Javelins has to do something with beastman unique unit.

that's because beastmen don't upgrade. the "upgrade" to sons of asena is actually a spell, it works that way so that they can upgrade outside their culture.
