Jet Fighters! Their True Use!

I've never once in any game of Civ 3 managed a bombing mission with a Jet Fighter - ever. They always fail the mission. Even when I've sent in waves of them they have, without exception, failed every bombing run.

I just found out how effective F-15's are for the Americans. After they shot down every darn Bomber I sent over their cities in a recent game. I lost 10 Bombers on one run once.

In contrast my own Jet Fighters failed to shoot any American Bombers down, damaged them but didnt destroy them.

Hey ho. I normally built Jet Fighters in high productivity core cities and then rebase them in far flung colonies to disband them for shields when they dont have an Airport handy.

well, i figured out yesterday or so, the true use of jet fighters. i remember a while ago people were trying to figure out what jet fighters attack and defense and shiz were for. i figured it out! well, in conquests, the enemies actually have units using air superiority. so if you send in a few jet fighter first, the enemy fighter is bound to attack one of them, so after you think that their air defenders are done with, send in the bombers! well, someone else mightve figured this out, but dont tell me that. or dont tell me im wrong either. i would like to be correct on this one ...

i''ve had planes shot down by fighters in vanilla DAMN RUSSKIES, i did shoot a jet fighter down with a heilcopter:eek:

It realy depends on the kind of level you're playing.

the A.I tend to be far more smarter at highter levels. There was this one game ,which i was playing, were the A.I civs were fighting each other using land ,sea and air. Most of the time all i could see were stleath bomers and fighters.I even saw a dog-fight between to fighters.;)

I do not understand thow why Jet Fighters don't have Leathal Land Bombardament, since they do have Leathal sea why not Land also?
Not right at all.

That is one of the additional powers given to the F-15 to make it a better UU giving it to all fighters would once again reduce its value.

In my recent bombardment of the Iroquios, I had some carriers based off the coast with a fight set on AS. When my bombers went in to bomb and were intercepted, one or twice, my AS fighter CAP wsa sent in to intercept the intercepter.

This is really interesting! I never knew they would intercept an intercepter.

Could be bad luck there or something. I usually do pretty good using fighters to bomb, especially when bombing units in the open.

Blasphemous is correct, aircraft have historically been far more effective against ships than against ground targets. A few bombs or torpedos sinks the mighty carrier, whereas it is very hard to eradicate an army on the ground from the air without engaging on the ground - to my knowledge this has never happened. I have PTW, and have always enabled bombers and arty from cannons on up to sink ships, because they are much more vulnerable to having holes punched in them or set on fire.
