I've been playing Byzantium with the fantasy events. I did take Smyrna and Adana in the war against Ghazi and Karaman and annexed Athens before eventually taking on the Ottomans who were defeated in three wars. I did have to give Burat to Lithuania for peace as they are allied with a gigantic Poland, Brandenberg and Saxony. In response I allied with Russia.
A number of reforms occur from the fantasy events to give more core provinces and boost taxes once you take certain provinces and additionally there is an event to get a trade centre in Thrace. The worrying thing is that it is 1500ish and I'm still stuck at the third military technology. Looking at the events file I need to take another 6 Turkish provinces that I have cores on to start getting the repopulation events to make the ones I already have more productive.
I am close to badboy wars though as Venice declared war when I declared war on Hungary. I signed peace with Hungary immediately and managed to get Croatia and Ionia. Trying to convert both to Orthodox.
