I live in Bergen in Norway which lies at 60 degrees north. For reference the northernmost parts of Scotland, not including Shetland and the Orkneys is at 58.5 degrees.
It's really fascinating how much milder the climate is by the coast(or at last certain coasts). I saw a BBC-program about someone in either Canada or Alaska. I thought it was almost at the north pole, but it turns out to be barely north of where I live. It's insane how important the gulf stream is. You don't have to go many hundred kilometers from the coast before the temperature drops.
Gotta love the Canadian city names: Yellowknife, Whitehorse and probably others. Sounds exotic and it makes me think of the Klondike gold rush which I read about in the Donald Duck comics as a child.
But enough egocentricity from me.
