Hello

I know I will get a rep hit if I declare war on another civ if my troops are in their territory, but will I get a rep hit if I declare war on a civ if they have any of their troops are in my territory? This is without a ROP agreement.

Thanks

Nope :) No reason there should be...

But this is assuming all other conditions are ok, ie having no obligations to continue the peace treaty (the 20 turns aren't over)

OMG that was very quick. Thank you, thank you very much.

I came back to modify my post, cause I wanted to ask another question and Im surprised that I got such a quick and concise answer. Thank you.

The thing is I have a privateer in their territory, so does that mean I am going to get a rep hit for this?

Also I a bit confused about what you said. So let me get this straight. If I signed a peace treaty with them and they declared war on me during the 20 turn grace period I will get a rep hit when its not my fault?

Cheers

Since the AI actually knows the privateer belongs to you, you will probably take a rep hit for declaring war.

The only time you will get a rep hit from the AI declaring war on you is if the war somehow disrupts a trade route.

Privateer is a unit, thus declaring war will get you a rep hit.
A better strategy is (if they have forces in your lands), demand them to leave. This often leads to them declaring on you, so if there is a rep hit; your opponent will get it, not you, because they declared war. You cannot get a rep hit for being declared on.

But if a result of the war is that you can't fullfill a treaty with a different civ (for instance your traderoute goes through enemy lands and is therefore cut), that will give you a rep hit.

Making peace = a 20 turn deal. Declaring on them within the 20 turns is "breaking a deal" and gets you a rep hit. Being declared on by them gives them a rep hit, not you.

Ah cheers everybody. Thanks for the help.

Thing is, I want them to declare war on me, but they never do. They just keep on sending units into my turf. I just figure I might aswell go to war against them if I am under no risk of getting a rep hit to stop their incursions.

My privateers patrol around their borders to take down anything that leaves their ports. This is also where I'm unsure of, cause I always assumed privateers had no nationality therefore the AI could not tie them to me. Guess I was wrong.

Cheers

If you want them to declare war on you...

A) make sure you have the 'move your troops or declare war' option on the diplomacy screen.

B) demand they give you one of thier core cities.

C) Keep clicking 'take this deal or else' until they become furious.

D) if they are much weaker than you, do it 10 more times

E) NOW demand they remove thier troops or declare war and they will declare war :)

You get a rep hit for having privateers in their territory when you declare war?
