... but given the news coming in-
-1- ranged fire
-2- "normal" units can move two spaces
-3- cities can expand three tiles out
dosn't that mean that the maps for Civ V will be leviathanesk in comparison to other civs? If that were true it would be great for those like myself who enjoy long games:D. Yet the Civ IV style tiny maps would be either be too long to play in the 1-4 hours they were ment to be played in... Or they would simply be unrealistic as a game mechanic. I did enjoy the lunch-break-game and am confused as to what they are going to do about it:sad:. Thoughts?

Not necessarily, the hex's wouldn't represent the same acreage of land as a tile. In my mental musings, the hex's are about 1/2 to 3/4 as large as a tile

Not necessarily, they might just feel cluttered. The screenshots look like the same kind of size maps as in Civ4. Cities only a few tiles apart, narrow chokepoint isthmus, etc.

I guess I was looking at it from a different perspective I guess. But it would make alot of sence if there was an even larger map size than we already have. And besides the 1 unit per hex rule would work well for giant maps like Carter's Earth, etc.

If the maps are still the same size your standing army (or if your building one) will fill your entire empire?

Don't remember pictures of the more advanced eras or with many nations to see the effect of armies spread in the map.
