Just an asking : can inquisitors remove heresy in foreign cities ?

Only work in your own city. And they are extremely weak in religious combat if caught outside your own borders.

To go on the offensive against an entrenched religion in foreign territory, you'll need apostles.

The inquisitors are also weak inside your borders if the enemy is apostle spamming you.

There is a promotion for apostels that make them removing other religions like an inquisitor. But apostel only get to choose between 1 out of 2 promotions if you are not suverain over Yerevan in which case you can choose between all promotions and thus create apostel duo with one having the remove promotion while the other being translator (3 time conversion strength against foregine cities). Other apostles should camp the enemy to instantly kill any enemy religious agent.

I do not know if inquisitor can remove religion in cities owned by other civs or not but they have only 70 strength outside your borders which mean they are instantly killed if they are forced into theological combat so getting them to the enemy may be very tricky and may require stuff such as military escort.

Can military units kill foreign religious units if you are at war?

Yes.

Religious units count as civilians in military fights and die instantly.

It's absolutely confirmed that barbs can kill religious units; in fact on current build it causes the same religious penalty that you get when one is destroyed via religious combat.

However, Quill tried while at war to attack an AI's religious unit with a military unit and the UI wouldn't let him.

There is a bit of mistaken assumptions here. Inquisitors would be useless in theological combat in one of your own cities if it is converted away from your religion as well. Its not your territory that is the deciding factor, its the religious environment.

I haven't watched Quill's entire holy war game yet but a couple things I suspect but want to see confirmed.

1. Can your religious units recover at holy sites in cities not owned by you but that follow your religion. I think the answer here is yes.
2. Can inquisitors remove heresy in cities not owned by you but that follow your religion. I think the answer here is yes.

Quill's Inquisitors got the religious combat bonus near cities he hadn't yet converted to his own; and in fact in one occasion used that religious combat to covert the cities.

Not sure if you are refering to Civ VI or not, in any case, in the current state of the game:

1. Can your religious units recover at holy sites in cities not owned by you but that follow your religion?. NO
2. Can inquisitors remove heresy in cities not owned by you but that follow your religion?. NO
3. Can inquisitors remove heresy in cities not owned by you but that do not follow your religion?. NO

This isn't correct.

If you are at war with Civ X, and move a military combat unit over a religious unit of Civ X, you get the option to Condemn Heretic the same way you would get a Plunder Trader option over a Trader unitnof Civ X. This would instantly kill the religious unit and inflict a negative religious penalty for that religion on nearby cities.

You are replying to a post from when, I believe, the religious units did not have their own layer like they do now. Really this thread should not have been necro'd, as it is not very useful with the gameplay changes that have occurred since the thread was started.

From the civilopedia (Im unsure if this was changed later):

Condemning Heretics
The Fall 2017 Update introduces a new way for Military units to attack Religious units: the Condemn Heretic action. It is no longer possible for Military units to attack Religious units directly - the latter are now on their own independent layer, which for purposes of normal combat amounts to them being in a different universe altogether. In practical terms this means that both types of units may share the same tile, enter and exit it without anything happening. However, military units now may use the special 'Condemn Heretic' action whenever they're in the same tile with an enemy Religious unit to destroy it instantly! The action requires 3 MPs, just like Pillaging, and besides destroying the unit will cause the religious pressure for their Religion in nearby cities to drop by 1/2 of the usual amount. Note, however, that there won't be a corresponding rise in Religious pressure for the military unit's Religion (assuming their civ follows one)! Also note that this action may only be undertaken against units from a nation you're at War with.

Yep, looks like change was in 2017, and this thread is from 2016. I should say that is how the change was, when made. I am not sure if that info is up-to-date currently.

Moderator Action: We discourage thread necrios as they invariably result in confusion and misinformation, given the significant changes to the game in the past three years. Thread closed.
