This is where China put their lost settler after 100+ years at sea.

It's the only city they have. They have no units. Lastly they are building a settler, it should finish 1 turn before they get to size 2. Oh, and this city can't grow over size 2 until a harbor.

Yeah, building a settler unit when they actually will never complete it. That civ is definitely stuck in its 2-sized city, not producing anything since AFAIK the AI never changes its production and simply waits for the city to grow. And this thing can't happen.
Man, and I don't think it would be a real problem to plan better the production of a city. I really hope that Civ4 will solve this.

i guess on that mountain tile within their city radius, theres uranium...
stupid!

I think he referred to the fact that they are building a settler when there's no chance of reaching size 3 (to get the settler out).

no he was reffering to the fact that they built a town with their only settler (having lost all cities)in the middle of nowwhere (and i think they did because of the uranium)
furthermore they are now trying to build a settler to spread their civ again, (its strange their not building a defensive unit first), which cant work, because of the great position they assigned to build their capital on

and thats what i too think is stupid...

everything clear?

That's OK with me, but they can't complete a settler unless they build a harbor first.

:)

And they won't build a harbor until they will finish what they're doing now...

Lol, so they will sit there undefended for eternity, trying to build a settler? Or, until another civ gets greedy.

Which will happen pretty fast...

@thetrooper and holy king

I was reffering to both.

@ seasmath

nope, I going for a space win. So I will keep them and Russia alive on different ens of the world.

Definitely a nice one...

I once experienced something comparable: the Aztecs, who had been almost entirely wiped out, attacked one of my ships with a galley; they lost the battle... and the game at the same time, because that galley contained a settler which happened to be the last remnant of their civilization...

Well, judging from the screenshot, the most stupid thing is the choosed location for the city. Had they founded it 3 tiles SW, they would have had access to irrigated grasslands, and have at least a chance to spread their civilization again.

Apart from that, choosing to build a settler in a city that can't reach size 3 is just hilarious... Obviously, the AS isn't programmed to ask itself a simple question: can i grow enough to complete it?!?

Unless it's conquests and there's an oasis under the ruins, but it seems unplausible.

If this is stupid, try to look in the thread "Are the AI stupid or I'm very lucky?". See there stupidities with cities.
I don't think that was a stupidity: it was a bug! The AI that doesn't reproduce like rabbits, and even doesn't build cities at all or leave the new ones undefended is way too strange

Tricky, you have PM! :D

Wow, the AI makes 2 stupid moves in 1 swift motion. a settler in a city that will never grow enough to pop a settler and a city built in the middle of nowhere.

sometimes the AI just does stupid things beyond explanation....so don't try to figure it out. :p

Except for bugs, that is the stupidest thing I have ever seen the AI do. I may understand if there is a 1-square flood plain, but I don't think so. I am gonna learn higher programming so I can fix the AI and make the ARTIFICIAL less obvious and the INTELLIGENCE more obvious. This is proof of two things:

1) The A"I" knows there is something good in the Radius
2) The A"I" doesn't care that it will never use it.
