How important is it to not show other civs your maps? the way I see it, if you give one civ your territory map, they can sell thier world maps to other civs, so you might as well always throw in your territory map into any bargain.

Your world map includes all areas explored on your map. Your territory map only includes your borders and the things in them.
If you are on an island for example and you want to own the island and you have 90% of it claimed and you meet a civ, you could get a little worried. They might want to settle on your island. I know I try to as it gives me an automatic D-Day type landing without the beachead. You shoudl not give them any maps until you own the island.
If you hold off giving your map to anyone, after a while your map becomes more valuable. I've held on to my maps until the early industrial age and I've traded multiple techs and 1000+ gold for them from each civ. In one game I got 4 techs from the middle ages I ignored, and over 5000 gold (some of it spread over turns) from the other 10 civs.
So if your trading your world map you are already trading your territory map.

Yes, I know. What I'm saying is that if I sell my territory map to civ A, it becomes a part of thier world map. if civ A sells thier world map which now includes MY territory on it, would my territory map be of any value to the civ that bought Civ A's world map?

Your map would be worth nothing. If you sell either your world map or territory map to any AI civ, you better sell it to all of them on the same turn. If my map is worth anything I will never sell it during the AI's turn, otherwise he will go around and sell it while it is still his turn.

Bamspeedy. very good point, and apparently that's true. If you sell a map sell it to everyone same turn.

if u get yourself into having worthless maps, give them as gifts. at least they won't hate you outright for that.

It is Bad sometimes but it just depends on thier attitude toward you if you first meet them and give them your map i found out they ussally declare war on you because they now have the area of your land and your city populations thats why i always make them bid high for my world map:eek:

On higher levels I'm usually behind the AI in techs, so I use my world map to trade for technologies. I can basically catch up to the AI civs in the same turn. My logic is that the AI will learn the map anyway, so I might as well get something for it while it still holds some value.
