Just installed. 174 patch wont work

it says its the wrong version or some bs. I try to install BTS but it says it cant patch. I have tried to use the built in downloader but it doesnt work. I know this is a common problem I need some help with links please.

How did you purchase Civ? Direct2Drive, or Steam? If so, you need to go to them to get the latest patches. If you got it on CD, then these links below will work.

Here is the link to the 1.74 patch for Vanilla Civ 4.

And here is the link to the BTS 3.17 patch.

Did you purchase Civ 4: Gold, or Civ 4: Complete? If so, some patches may already be applied and there are some funky problems with file paths.

Based on past experiences, patch 1.74 won't install on versions of civ older then 1.61. (It might work on 1.52 though, I haven't tried yet)

Ghost Ranger's suggestion of the 1.61 patch is good advice, it has worked for me in the past, however the link provided appears to be dead, and so is the link at the 2k games site. Does anyone have a more up to date link where the patch is still availible?

I too am attempting to install the BtS expansion pack.

I am right now attempting to install the 1.61 patch and see if that fixes it. I'll post here if that works.

(I bought the Civ4 cd retail, but I downloaded BTS from Direct2Download. I'm crossing fingers that I can install the 1.61 patch and then the 1.74 patch, and then BTS will install properly.)
