Just installed C2C - Crashes to desktop when starting a new game

Hello, I cannot get the game to actually start. I can load the mod just fine, and access the Sevopedia, but once I try to start the game (no matter what the options are) the game will attempt to initialize and then just crash to the desktop.

This mod seems so awesome, I would like to give it a try :)

I extracted the downloaded files and put them in ".../Program Files/.../Beyond The Sword/Mods" folder. I am using XP (yes I know, it's old, but it's the fastest I have), and can play RoM New Dawn just fine.

Any thoughts?

When you get the mod 'open' do you see the caveman2cosmos mainscreen or has it changed at all from the normal one?

Are you using Steam?

Do you have a fully 3.19 patched version of CivIV BtS installed?

Yep, the background in the mainscreen is the C2C one (caveman and astronaut).

I am not using Steam (not when I have other options!) - I am using the Complete Edition.

The complete edition already came with patch 3.19.

Nope, didn't work. I downloaded and installed, but it still crashed while initializing. Weird.

The C2C_ThreePlanets map does crash. There is a conflict somewhere if you are using the default terrain graphics but not if you are using one of the two alternate terrain graphics packs.

I've tried C2C Big_And_Small, C2C Fractal, C2C Continents, and the other standard ones.

I extracted the mod using WinZip to the directory I specified. Did I do something wrong there maybe?

I also have BlueMarble installed separately (it's a separate .exe). Again, everything works fine in RoM A New Dawn. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not.

RoM AND does not add terrains C2C does. Blue Marble does not have enough terrains so it will use some of the C2C ones. I expect there is a clash somewhere between these terrain graphics. This means you will need to turn off Blue Marble when playing C2C.

OK, I got it to work - somewhat.

I had to re-install the entire base game and BTS to get it to work though, since BlueMarble obviously made some kind of permanent change the the base game. (Uninstalling within the .exe wasn't enough.)

It doesn't crash, but it takes FOREVER to load. Like, 10+ minutes. RoM New Dawn doesn't take nearly as long.

One must need a mega supercomputer to play this lol.

Love the concept of this mod, but for me it is unplayable.

EDIT: I loaded (very, very slowly) iton a Windows 7 laptop (was slightly below specs, but used it for testing). It loaded, and I managed to get into a Fractal map, but the amount of time it took from start to finish was astronomical. But it worked.

I tried playing again on my XP machine (the one I re-installed the entire game). It managed to get into "Initiate Graphics" (as opposed to initializing and just crashing to desktop), but then it hung for a long time. I tried minimizing, and then it crashed, with an error message "abnormal program crash" or something like that. The second time I loaded the mod, it did the same thing as before, crashes immediately on initializing. These occur when I am already inside the mod, when generating a new game.

So yeah.

Once it loads it shouldn't be too bad. I used to play on an older system and it took about 20 min to load back then (before a lot of more recent optimizations.) But then I suppose I'm not too impatient with these things.

On the current system I'm working with it takes 2-5 min to come up at most.

I suppose I should just start a new reply instead of editing my previous post - my bad.

On my XP machine (which has better specs than the laptop I tried) it does the same thing as before - crashes straight to desktop. The game is freshly installed, BlueMarble is gone, and it is fully patched.

Maybe XP is just too old?

I guess I will have to someday get a new computer if I am to play these newer mods/games. The mod responds very slowly and isn't worth playing (for me) with the current hardware I have. (My computer is in one of those old style cases - with a floppy drive!!) But wow - there was a lot of effort put into this! :)
