Basically, I've just installed the game, updated to 1.61, and double-click the civ4 icon... nothing happens. At all.
So I've run through the usuals - most of the excuses to stall for annoying issues - updated vid driver, audio drivers and the rest of the drivers as well, cleaned up the system using ace utilities.
I've scavenged the forums here for some of the more plausibiles, uninstalling daemon tools and diverse other small resident programs, disabled antivirus (avast), removed starforce from a previously installed game. Uninstalled Civ4 afterwards and reinstalled to a different location.
Ah.. and lastly, just reinstall with no patch.
Still nothing. Not even a blink of activity. I could just as well have clicked on a nulled icon
Try executing the .exe directly. Same duff, nothing happens. Nothing CIV like in the task manager.
Anyways... specs:
P4 2.8 prescott in HT mode
1 gb ram
ASUS P4P800 mobo (latest firmware)
MSI Nvidia 6600 AGP card (last drivers off nvidia.com)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (just updated as well)
160 gb SATA1 diamondMAX, 4 gb free on C, 110 gb free on D (pretty fresh install)
Windows XP pro, sp2 fully up to date on hotfixes
Plextor DVDR PX-712A
Pioneer DVD105
Civ4 version: English DVD editition.
So, if anyone has any suggestions, feel free and shoot away... I'm pretty much at a loss here.
