Haven't played any Civ in well over 4 years. However, very interested in CIV 4.

So here are my specs:

AMD Athlon 3200 Barton
1 GIG Corsair XMS Ram
74GB Raptor HDD
Nvidia 6800 NU 128mb 256bit

Can I run this at full details 1280x1024 Resolution and maybe a 2x AA? It doesn't seem like there should be any lag right? I run Far Cry which is way more demanding at those resolutions with over 30FPS all the time. Anyone have a similar system that can tell me what kind of performance you are getting? THis is of course assuming that I have no problems installing/running the game.

Thanks guys!

Assuming you dont experience any of the problems that have been mentioned in the forums. You specs seem fine. I'm running at fullscreen 1280x1024 w/ 4xAA. I don't know about FPS but it's pretty smooth and well, pretty. If you have $50 and feeling lucky, by all means, run to the store and grab a copy of Civ 4.

Thanks man! Very reassuring to say the least, might actually go out and buy it now. I don't mean to impose, but when u play it next time can you run FRAPS and report what Frames Per Second you are getting? FRAPS is a program that tells you your frames with yellow numbers at the top. If you don't want to do that thats fine. Thanks for answer man! :goodjob:

FRAPS Result:

2K Games ~ 60 FPS
Intro Movie ~ 30 FPS
Main Menu ~ 30 FPS
Loading screen ~ 0-2 FPS
-Done screen ~ 0 FPS
Gameplay ~ 15-17 FPS (no unit selected), 10-12 FPS (w/ unit selected)
-between turns ~ 0 FPS
-what to build next screen ~ 12 FPS

Hope that's detailed enough.

I would not buy the game. Currently, a waste of money. Way to many problems with the game. I would wait for a patch to fix the many problems with the game.

Thanks a lot. Thats odd though cause you said it was smooth for you, but 12-17 FPS is not smooth, I was thinking more lines of 30+. Is this with 4X AA? Does lowering it 2X or off do anything? Also do u use Anistropic filtering? Sorry for all this nonesense, just trying to make sure it will be good. It is 50 bucks you know..hehe.

There's not a lot of significant changes from frame to frame, so 15 FPS is pretty good, not like first person shooter. Scrolling is not as smooth, but compared to when I had an FX5200, the performance is like day and night.

At 2xAA it's about 20 FPS. To be honest, I can't tell the difference between 2x and 4x, i guess i'll stick with 2x. I set it to 4x the first time I ran the game after the video card upgrade, never bothered to change it back. Um, Anistropic filtering? I guess that's my answer, haha.

Just to mention, all graphic settings are at HIGH, resolution at 1280x1024, 2xAA.

Yea, for $50, it's wise to get as much info as you can. So far this game has cost me $170, game and a new video card (had some money left over from summer job, figured it's about time I upgraded, hadnt done it since I built the system 2+ yrs ago, well worth it).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, keep in mind that the game still have to be installed and run...anyway, good luck.

EDIT: Just noticed something, when I zoomed in ALL the way, it's 30 FPS, zoomed out ALL the way, it's 3 FPS...i dont really look at the globe view, so it doesnt matter. But there's combat zoom, when you initiate the attack, it zooms in all the way and you see the units fighting, pretty cool, especially at 30FPS.

CORRECTION: After zooming back in, now it doesnt show 30 FPS anymore, weird.

LAST ONE: I Ctrl+ESC then went back into the game, back to 30FPS. The globe view must have done something.
