hi

i have been playing civ3 for years but i have just got a laptop and installed it on it. within a few minutes it crashed to the desktop.

it keeps doing it, a message appears saying windows cant continue????

any ideas.

i have installed the 1.29f patch

Have you tried right clicking the exe file, and selecting "run in XP compatability mode"?

Also if that doesn't work right click the shortcut and select "run with administrator permission" (or something along those lines)

Remember that programs written for XP are used to have unrestricted access to the computer, vista on the otherhand locks things down, and prevents programs from accessing and modifying much of what they used to have free run with previously.

I was having more or less the same problem until I did what he said as well as making the entire folder rid of "read-only" format... I had problem saving stuff before in terms of editing conquest scenarios, and I am guessing that they are based of read-only... and half of my crashes more or less deals with end-game recording hall of fame, so I simply presumed it was the handiwork of readonly format.

What version of the game are you playing? Vanilla? Play the World? Conquest?

Also try re-installing it to your Desktop to avoid those pesky restrictions Vista puts on programs installed into the Program Files folder.
