The face looks decidely un-scandinavian.
Perhaps hispanic.

Also Eric is not the best choice for a great king of Norway.

One of the Haralds would have been a better choice.
either Harald Haarfagr (you listed him as Harald Finehair, better translation is Fairhair)
or Harald Hardrada
ancient kings of Norway

also I think shunned government of republic is better. No scandinavian nation has ever had a republic, while despots and tyrants were not unheard of.

I just downloaded it and will try it later, it sure looks good and the UU is very nice. :thanx:
The only thing I could argue about is that Norway should be militaristic. I would prefer agricultural, since Norway has not been a very belligerent country (in the viking era all European countries were ruled by military aristocracies), while something that has been typical is decentralized settlement.
So kudos to you for another great work! :hatsoff:

If this is meant to be Erik Bloodaxe, I agree with Bjornlo. He was a kinslayer and his own people drove him out. He died the death he deserved. I'd also agree with Luceafarul that agriculural is preferable to militaristic, at least within the scope of an epic game, as the so-called "Viking" Era was not only a short period of history but also blown far out of proportion by 19th century "scholarship". As a Heithinn, I definitely prefer Harald Harðraða to Harald Fairhair but either would be better than Erik.

I used like reference the face of Eric, the Red and tried copied his nose, mounth, beard, face... Maybe the references r wrong. I can do in the future other leaders of Norway, I choice that, cos all the time I asked for some suggestion before to do Eric I didn't find any anwser. So, I googled myself and find that the famous Eric was born in Norway, for this reason I choice him :)

I appreciate the work required to do these, I wish I had the skill myself. I'm limited to static images (tech, civilopedia and the like).
Not that I an encouraging you to keep Eric the Red (he was not a king of any kind but a murder and an outcast), but if you do.

Nose: change to a more "roman" style (longer straighter)
Skin: Much paler, more pink less brown
Hair: Much redder, with perhaps a hint of blonde, as most Norweigan red-heads also show a little blonde and Eric's Son (Lief) was reputedly blonde.
Foreheard: lose the strange looking Birthmark
Eyes: pale, or blue

I should also point out that Eric, and either Harald Haarfagr and Harald Hardrada would have looked more like a typical norwegian, then the current monarchs (which are of mostly danish, english and swedish descent).

Perhaps more like this fellow

Svend Karlson, a norwegian and fomerly the worlds stongest man.

Looks as good as the Firaxis one, :goodjob:. Oh, and he looks NOTHING like a Hispanic!

I disagree.

The image of Eric presented here is a swarthy dark haired fellow, with a strange nose and odd birthmark.
The Firaxis image, while not perfect either, is alot closer to the mark.

Bjornlo, there were for weeks two thread to discussion about the Norwegian and Dane civ, there we discuss about the leaders, skin color, noises... when the LHs were under construction. Sorry, you have arrived late :(

Looks good! :) He looks a little Hispanic in the industrial era though... But the others are pretty good...

I am Hispanic, live in a Hipanic city and have a Hispanic family, and this dude does not look Hispanic! Anyways, they look awesome!

I am Norwegian and Swedish by descent and I can tell you, he doesn't look particularly Scandanavian either. Still, a useful leaderhead, Civ Army. There are too few for the Scandanavian civs, so thank you.

Maybe his father was Hispanic and his mother Scandinavian or vice versa... ;)

hehe..

Touche'

Either way, makes for a strange looking scandinavian king.
I am Norwegian, and so I am somewhat familiar with what Norwegians look like. And while the face of is a good piece of work by CivArmy s. 1994. I'd be hard pressed to think of a face that looked less scandinavian unless I include those of asian or african decent.

Here is a description for norway stolen from the Middle Ages Conquest.

^The Norwegians were perhaps the most prolific explorers and raiders of the Viking era. Their longships ranged far and wide, birthing settlements as far as Newfoundland and Morocco. Like the other Viking nations Norway elected its kings until it adopted Christianity in the late 10th century C.E., although in Norway the church's efforts to extend its reach into secular spheres of influence was much more strongly resisted. More than one Norwegian king was excommunicated by the Church due to intransigence or open conflict against church authorities and lands. The Norwegian king Harald Hardrada played a significant role in the Norman Conquest in 1066 C.E., forcing the Saxon king Harold Godwinsson to force-march south after confronting Harald's army (Harald was killed in the battle) to fight William the Conqueror. Many historians speculate that this force march led to the Saxon defeat at Hastings and the ascension of William to the English throne.

^
^ After that, the conflict between the church and the monarch continued, deepening into a ruinous civil war that would last for decades. The civil war finally ended in 1217 with the crowning of Haakon IV as king of Norway; he formally established the hereditary succession of the crown along with ending traditional Viking blood feuds. He also formalized Norwegian authority over the various Viking colonies, creating a very early and primitive colonial empire. He also created a court system that was unprecedented in its subtlety and cleverness; the modern Anglo-American system involving different "levels of appeal", in which one court's decision can be appealed to a higher one and so on to the highest court in the land, owes its basic structure to Haakon's brainchild. Haakon's sons maintained the stability and prosperity their father had brought to their country, until the regency of Margaret I and her brilliant campaigns to unify the three Viking crowns. Margaret's plan came to fruition in 1397 C.E., when the Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian thrones were occupied by a single man (Margaret's great-nephew Erik).
