While looking through the Bugs thread looking for various minor issues that are quick to fix but have been overlooked, I ran across the discussion from when I was fixing the Crusader spawning of King Richard's Crusade about what its effect actually should be.

Currently, its primary effects are +25% :hammers: and a free Crusader on completion and every X turns (16 for most speeds) that spawns with the full XP and promotion list of its city. It requires Christianity in the city and as the state religion to be built, but it continues to function until obsoleted even if you change religions.

Among the possibilities was extra Crusaders spawning from other cities as well, with half or zero XP. Another was a variable effect based on your state religion, with unique units for each religion, reduced effects or weaker units for non-Christian, or other incentives to keep Christianity as your state religion rather than switch away. Maybe some kind of bonus only if your civ is at war? Setting up a unique unit for each religion sounds would be extremely complicated and time-consuming, but a single unit that spawns for all non-Christian religions is easily doable.

My personal proposal for reworking the wonder:
+25% :hammers: bonus should be switched to a +% Military Unit Production bonus instead.
Free Crusaders from the wonder's city with full XP if Christianity is your state religion, free (weaker unit) with full XP if you have some other state religion.
If your civ is at war with somebody of a different state religion, additional free units in other cities, with lower XP, semi-randomly.

So... ideas, thoughts, opinions, discussion?

I agree with the change to Military Unit Production bonus. The :hammers: is a hold over from Civ III.

I am not entirely sure about the second. If we had the equivalent for the other religions then I would have the wonder only active with Christianity.

Historically it was not one nation but a whole bunch of nations that got crusaders. Perhaps all nations with state religion should get some free when this wonder is in a nation with Christianity as its state religion - just throwing out ideas here.

There are a number of other buildings/wonders that have been suggested which should tie in with this wonder Knights Hospitalier for example could require this wonder and provide a combat-healer and so on.

Having this wonder could allow some events eg "Peasant Crusade" all cities with pop > 3 loose a pop and give an inexperienced Crusader unit. Or bad events where some buildings of the non state religion are destroyed.

Some of the other religions don't really lend themselves to having similar wonders, historically or thematically speaking. That said, a few probably do; for example, Asatru, Naghualism and Islam all seem like a similar wonder would fit.

So basically, while the owner of the wonder has Christianity as their State Religion, all other nations with Christianity as their state religion also get free crusaders?

I assume something along the lines of "If King Richard's Crusade has been built by any player, all players get X unlocked"?
