I'm gathering together a group to play once a week (or however often) when enough people are free. If you're on NZ or Eastern Daylight time and would be interested, please post here. So far I have a few friends of mine on board (well I haven't asked them but I think they'll be keen), I'll get them to post in here.

The idea is we would play for an hour or two, save the game, and load it up another night. A few house rules will be imposed, see the 'Double turns' and 'Gifting of cities' rules here, note that those rules were written with Civ IV PTBS in mind so ignore the parts regarding civstats and turn timers.

I'm in NZ and keen to play some games. Haven't played multiplayer Civ before but definitely want to give it a try.

Will do. When I've gathered a few more I'll start organizing it. What nights are generally good for you? We can only play during the evenings because we work 7 days a week between us (I work mon-fri, another guy works thu-mon, the others are students).
