Knights Templar auction

So the Knights Templar just went up on the auction block. The only battle taking place in the game is barbarians sacking an inactive one-player civ.

If I send all my units to go defend against the barbarians, and then buy the KT, do my troops double? Or does it only work if I'm defending my own civ?

I'm fairly certain it only affects your own Civ.

Yea - for that auction, if my civ is not in a war, I just bid what I think 1 fame point is worth.
