know you enemy

Just started my first game of RON

Its very hard to tell how strong the opponent is. Not least because they quickly kill my scout.

I did capture a city but enemy raiders subsequently butchered the garrison in counter attacks

also the enemy can hide in buildings so I don't know how many units I need

whats the best way to judge when to build up your defences and when to attack

is it best to rush the enemy with your first few units or build a big and advanced force

how long does a typical game take ?

any thoughts ?
