EDIT (2003/06/20) : Thread is dead. Another game is being started in another thread. See link at the end of this thread.

EDIT (2003/06/15) : Skip the 1st posts and go to post #17, this game will be restarted : Deity.

Welcome to my first SG !
This is an Emperor game. Anybody can join, whether you usually play at Deity or you have never tried Emperor. It would be nice to have players of both profiles. I've already beaten Emperor quite easily, but I'm stucked at Deity...
We're playing with PTW 1.14.
We can discuss the settings before I start playing. I'll edit them when I'm sure of what we want.

World size = Standard
Barbarians = Nomade
Land mass = Pangea with 80% water
Climate / Temperature / Age = Wet / Temperate / 4 billion
Civ = French
Number of opponents = 7
Available victories = All
Difficulty = Emperor
Not culturally linked, no restarting players. I think I like these rules now.

We'll use no exploits, as in LK games (I copy-paste his rules) :
The following tactics are PROHIBITED :
RoP Rape - if you have to ask...
RoP Abuse (irrigating all tiles with a city building wonders, denying resources with a RoP, etc.).
Scout resource denial - parking a scout on a resource, as the AI won't ask scouts to leave.
False Peace Treaties (must wait for the 20 years to end).
Declaring War to break trade deals including actions like the Demand exploit to force a war, or demanding to leave territory.
False Alliances (ally with several people vs. a civ then peace with that civ), and other actions that completely abuse the AI limited diplomacy ability.
Spy exploit - If you fail to plant a spy, you CAN'T try again. The exploit is : you can infinitely plant a spy until the Civ declares war.
Demand exploit - You may make ONE demand a turn per civ. The exploit is : you can demand to the end of time, and guaranteed to get a civ furious and almost to war.
The negative science exploit - you can run a huge deficit (-250 / turn) of negative cash with a token penalty of one lost worker / cheap building. If cash will go below zero, the research level must be dropped.

We'll play 10 turns each, with me playing 20 turns at the beginning.
24 hours to post a "got it" message, another 24 hours to play and post the game after that. I'll listen to any demand of delay.
Don't hesitate to post questions, suggestions, strategy articles, before or after your turn ! Don't hesitate to go down your route, if you think the player before you messed a little ; as long as we agree on a general strategy, we'll learn things that way.
Remember : we're here to learn and enjoy playing Civ3 !!!

The roster = 5 players :
1) kryszcztov
2) Ville
3) ???
4) ???
5) ???

Since there is no response after one day, I edited the settings to give an idea of what the game could be.

As for our civ, any of them can be played. I'd rather go with an industrious civ, though. Let's give the ones I prefer (in no particular order) : Persians, Ottomans, France, Egyptians, Chinese. For non-industrious civs, we could play as : Greeks, Babylonians, Romans...

Now, fill in the roster ! :D

I'm not sure do I join.
But sign me in with ???, I will decide soon (at least I hope so), PM me if I won't post here in a few days
EDIT: Go Egypt Go

Ok, I started the game, because otherwise it will never start.
I chose the French for our civ.

0- 4000bc : We're located at the equator. We start on a hill by a river and on the shore. We'll have much commerce and a good defended site, but it's not a great site, overall. We'll have to fight to grab better sites ! I plunk the settler here : Paris is founded.
Good ! There was 1 gems mountain just outside Paris' city radius. Now, there are 2 more inside it, on jungle tiles ! Fortunately, we are an industrious civ, so we'll be able to clear the jungle quickly to get powerful grasslands, I hope. I set the production on Warrior.
Our worker goes SE on our only bonus grassland at the moment.
As Paris won't crank out many settlers, I set science at 20% on Writing (due in 40 turns, +2 gpt).
Our opponents are : Egyptians (I/R), Greeks (C/S), Koreans (C/S), Iroquois (E/R), Babylonians (R/S), Romans (C/M) and Persians (I/S).

1- 3950bc : The worker starts a road, because mining before roading wouldn't give us any extra shield.

2- 3900bc : zzz

3- 3850bc : Road completed, start mine.
We're doing +3 gpt.

4- 3800bc : zzz

5- 3750bc : Warrior in Paris. I send him south.

6- 3700bc : Mine completed, move to a standard grassland tile.

7- 3650bc : Start mine.

8- 3600bc : Our warrior has discovered a nice peninsula with grasslands, hills and a few fish tiles. More jungle appears to the west.

9- 3550bc : Warrior in Paris. I keep in Paris for this turn, because of the bug that occurs when the border expands and the city gets a unhappy citizen.

10- 3500bc : Amazing ! Paris' border expands (and Paris is pop 2) and it reveals 2 more gems jungle tiles. The river seems to run through more and more jungle...
Mine completed, start road.
I send the 2nd warrior north. Lux at 20%. We're doing +2 gpt.

11- 3450bc : zzz

12- 3400bc : Warrior in Paris, start a settler.
Road completed, move to another grassland tile. We're doing +3 gpt.
I send the warrior west.

13- 3350bc : Start mine.
Our 3rd warrior avoids popping a hut.

14- 3300bc : zzz

15- 3250bc : There is nothing but jungle ! I start to wonder whether a wet world is good. We find 2 silks.

IT : A Greek warrior appears from the jungle.

16- 3200bc : Alexander is worried. He is Bronze Working, Warrior Code and Ceremonial Burial up to us. He could only sell us Ceremonial Burial for 50 gold and 2 gpt. We'll wait for Writing.
We find a bit of grassland in the north and in the west ! We find a 3rd silk.
Mine completed, start road.

17- 3150bc : We find our first food bonus tiles !

18- 3100bc : Road completed, move to a hill.
We find dyes... on jungle...

19- 3050bc : Start road (should have done it before).

20- 3000bc : Settler in Paris (pop 1). Lux at 0%, we're doing +2 gpt, we have 67 gold in treasury.
We find 2 ivory tiles in the north, but the Greeks are already there.

This game is gonna be tough. If very good players want to participate, they're welcome !!!

the save

EDIT # can't remember : I don't understand these attachments and uploads system. So here is the 3000bc save. Then I'm gonna post 2 screenshots.

Here is the start position.
I post it as an attachment, but is it possible to put a link to the uploads server that displays the image as well ?

Here is a screenshot from the end of my turns (3000bc).
The red dot is the quikest spot to reach : with 3 fish tiles after the border's expansion, this would make a nice city.
The blue dot is very good, but we have to cross a lot of jungle and the Greeks are just next to it.
I didn't move the settler at the last turn : the next player will have to decide where to send him. I'm tempted to head for the blue spot, though...

I'm sorry Kryszcztov but I don't understand a word from that save, it's in French so I may not be able to play:(
Of course it's not so bad problem but it's annoying in diplomacy when you don't know what those words are. But anyway I'll play at least these 10 turns

0-Settler moving towards Blue dot
3-Egyptians found
4-Paris builds a Warrior>Warrior
I also traded Bronze Working from Egypt for some gold

Oh, I forgot that all key-words would be displayed in French, my bad. That's the opposite when I play other SGs... Anyway, I hope most players here know at least a bit of French ; otherwise you can find it by yourself, depending on the context. Hopefully, I'll get a fully compatible version soon, I hope it will fix this.

@ Ville : It would be quite nice if you talked MORE about your turns. Even though there is not much to do now, we nearly have no idea of what you did : where is the settler now ? what are the warriors doing ? what's going on in Paris ? etc.
And we don't know what you were thinking of during your turns, what your plans were... Would you make a little effort next time ? ;)

Ok, we need 3 more players (at least) ! Anyone can post a "got it" message and play until we are 5.

A few French words in diplomacy... (IIRC the English key-words)

aimable = friendly
poli = polite
prudent = cautious
embarrassé = annoyed
furieux = furious

or = gold
carte = map
monde = world
territoire = territory
tour = turn
for all the resources : check in in-game Civilopedia

I'll add more in this post if needed.

The settler is in bluedot now (or in immediate nearess)
Well some worker jobs done mostly mining and roading and such.
Sorry I try to write more next time. I'm too lazy:lol:

Oh, I'm sad no one comes to play with me... :( :D Come on, everyone, and lead the glorious French to victory !

I've just had a look at the save. Our settler is ready to found Orléans. But why are we building a worker in Paris ? :confused: We should build a settler instead. I did not build a granary (and therefore I did not research Pottery) because there is too much jungle in our area. So, we don't want to build cities in the middle of jungle for the moment, but head for those few pretty places that we can see beyond the jungle. That means to build a few settlers only, and so the granary strategy would not have worked here, IMO (too much time wasted). But we WANT to build some settlers right now ! Otherwise we will be left with 3 or 4 cities, and BTW quite disconnected one from the other !

I think we should found cities near the Egyptians now, there is a nice place just NE of one of their cities. Then we could grab the silks (maybe with 2 cities, a dotpmap could help) and the fish peninsula after that.

Come on, people ! We need 3 more players in this game ! It may look tough, but it could be a challenge, and I really want to share it now ! :D

I'm waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting for people, la la la...
Join the party and become :king: of France for free !!! You'll share a great experience and have fun ! Play this enjoyable succession game and you'll be :) for the rest of the day.

3 slots are still open ! We need these 3 people to fight against :egypt: who rules in the west. I want you for the SG army ! ;)

Mmmh, no players around...

I think I'm gonna move things up. I'm interested in playing a Deity game now, with some good players to learn. If anyone has won a Deity game and would like to join, that would be cool. I intend to play the first round, but I think we'll need to generate the game under an English/American version.

Come on, everyone ! :) If there are at least 3 people (including myself), we could start, and I'd change the thread's title.

We could discuss the game settings before. I'd like an expansionnist civ.

Hi ! count me in if your still going ahead. This will be my first SG game. Ive been playing in the GoTM the last few months. Just submitted a nice result on GoTM 20! Im in the UK so I just have the 1.14f patch. Hopefully, the 1.21f patch will come out this week so we can get americans and aussies to sign up as well.

We could covert it to 1.21f when it comes out and get more players (hey aren't patches usually released in Fridays:confused: ) (Oh I forgot it's Friday the 13th:lol: ) where was I... yeah Welcome samildanach. If we get more players I may leave you with this because I'm no good Emperor player:(

@ samildanach : Yeah, you're welcome ! So there ARE people browsing elsewhere than the 1st page... ;) What level do you play ? But if you say you got a nice result in GOTM 20... I still haven't started it, and I also want to submit the QSC this month.
Don't be afraid, I'm fairly new to SG too, and with so many answers so far ( ;) ) to my SG, you can judge my fame ! :o

Thanks both of you for telling about the 1.21 patch, I knew it but I did not think of it for this purpose. Mmmh, I'm not sure about converting this game to another patch... Maybe I could start another game ? And I'd like to have a fully English game for English speaking people, which is not the case now. So I'll have to ask someone to generate a game upon what we will decide, send me the 4000bc save, and I could start MY SG... :) Eh eh.

Ok, folks ! We need more players for a Deity game ! We might run it with the expected 1.21 PTW patch, so being American is no more an excuse !!! :D
