Lag a& AI question

After several patches, I'd like to check up on this game and see whether it's worth buying in its current state--or whether I need to wait a few more patches. More specifically, I am wondering about two initial problems that kept me away for a long time:

1. Lag: Is the horrendous lag between turns still an issue? I am a large+ map and Marathon game player, so I can't imagine I'd want to play if there are still 1+ minute lags in large+ map games from medieval era or so onward.

2. AI: Has the AI been improved to the point where it can give an experienced Civilization player a modicum of challenge in non-Deity levels (that is, without mega-cheating)? From what I've perused earlier, the AI can't even maneuver a mid-sized army. In the Demo version, I recall AI units were completely unresponsive to danger: For instance, a melee unit would just sit and take a pounding from an un-supported ranged unit and die--rather than attacking or running away :mischief:

1. Lag is really a computer issue now. I have a fairly modern computer, I haven't found much lag on Huge maps. Though, like all Civ games, even the daunted Civ 4, expect some slowdown at endgame.
2. AI, well people have different opinions. In general, though the AI has been beefed up quite considerably from release, paticularly in the aspect of moving the units. Though sometimes it can be silly, in most cases, it can pull off a fairly decent invasion. (thats still not to say, that those decent invasions don't melt before your own troops) Barbarians are smarter too.

You know what? Perhaps the best way to see how the AI is handling in Deity level is to take a look at some to the YouTube videos that MadDijnn and Bilbor and others have put together... lets find a link

That way, instead of listening to others opinions, which may or may not be bias, you can see the AI's gameplay in action in various difficulty levels (without having to fork out 60$ for a game you may only play once).

1. yes theres still waiting time during later games
2. yes ai is a tad smarter, i play emp/immortal on standard resources

I have a Dell XPS17 that I just bought a few months ago that has 4Gb of RAM, 3Gb Nvidia GT555M video, and an i7 processor so it's safe to say my machine will run just about anything with MAX settings...and I still experience infuriating lag on larger maps.

I had been knocking out achievements on standard maps for the first few months after I got Civ5, and just recently started playing larger maps to get those achievements, and I noticed how badly the game lagged in between turns. It's worse as the game progresses. It seems as if the more civs you meet and the more of the map you explore...the longer the lag is in between turns.

I ran Civ5 on DX9 for most of the time I've been playing because I hadn't googled the fix for the intro video and the game would crash. Once I experienced the lag issue I wondered if playing the game in DX11 would help...so I researched the fix and have been playing in DX11 ever since (and it was a slight improvement).

I've researched the problem and haven't come up with many helpful solutions. Many folks are just saying to turn your video settings down and to turn off the leader videos but when I tried that it really didn't seem to help enough to be worth it...and besides it couldn't possibly be a hardware issue because my machine runs StarCraft 2 on max settings like a pro!

If anybody knows a fix for this I'd be all ears :)

This game needs further speed improvements to make bigger maps playable in lategame.
