Hi!

I played Civ last night, and everything was absolutely fine, but getting into the game today I started getting insane lag. It takes about 10 seconds of clicking to switch from settler to warrior, and every command in the game takes forever to respond. The main game menu works fine, but as soon as I get into the game, the lag begins. I already uninstalled and re-downloaded the game -- but it did not help. I tried to change EnableGameCoreThreading = 1 to EnableGameCoreThreading = 0, which is something I googled up, but it helped ever so slightly.

Also, if it is of any help, my account was hacked two weeks ago, then restored and hacked the same day, so I had to change everything about it. Last night there was another hack attempt, albeit unsuccessful. But this has to do with Steam as a service and not the game itself.

I installed the game almost 3 months ago and never had issues of such sort. I play with low-medium video options as well.

I also verified integrity of game cache, but it didn't help.

When you say hacked, what are you referring to? If your OS is compromised and it is being used as server, then the hack or virus is probably taking up all your bandwidth. You could try going into steam and logging out of steam into offline mode. Turn off your wireless or unhook your wired hookup. Reboot the computer and go into steam making sure that you stay in offline mode. Then try playing the game. If the game plays ok, then you need to figure out how to get rid of the hack or virus that is interrupting your online playing of the game itself.

If it still messes up in offline mode, then you may want to put any saved games in a different file and manually delete all folders and files of both steam and civ5 in widows/my games. Reboot and re-install steam and re-download the games.

Somebody else got access to my e-mail address and requested password change, and then changed my e-mail from logging into Steam. The day my e-mail/password got restored, that person hacked it again, so I requested an e-mail change, so this last time that person could not do anything to change password and log into Steam, since I had a different and secured e-mail address.

I tried doing offline mode, but it did not work, and I already re-installed Civ5. I guess, I will try removing Steam and Civ completely and install them from scratch, thanks.

Hm, tried another game, and instead of regular ~30 fps now I consistently get 11. Something is wrong with my laptop, I guess.
