Lag in the BTS version of RFC

My RFC works just fine on Warlords, with only some lag in the late game. However, on BTS it seems like that lag is tripled or more, with clicks only generating responses about a minute later and extremely long waits between turns. It makes RFC not very fun to play on BTS and I was wondering what I should do about it, and what's causing the excessive lag, since most other people don't seem to be having issues. My system specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 Processor
CPU 2.80GHz
1.50 GB of RAM
Windows XP

I'd appreciate any help... my technical knowledge is unfortunately very limited.

In fact, AFAIK Rhye has changed the AI to make them build less armies, so I think the speed should be faster when compared to older versions(but I'm not sure if it applies to warlord version).
Maybe there's some errors in your computer settings?

The bottleneck seems to be the ram.
Also try to turn down the graphics settings. Delayed mouse-clicks sounds more like you turned on to many details. What's your graphics card?

I would put my money on your graphics card being the problem. My PC with similar specs to yours had major issues with RFC and was unplayable in the modern era but when I upgraded my video card and video memory I've never had an issue with RFC since.

Video memory would explain the delayed clicking, but also keep in mind that BTS added quite a few new features, which adds to the calculations the game has to make (thus slowing the game down). I agree with everyone else in that it's probably your video card, but don't expect the BTS one to be any faster than Warlords.

Thanks! Everything you've said has been really helpful. My graphics card is an NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200 with installed video memory of 128 MB. I got it quite a few years ago, so I suppose that's the problem.

try disabling the "show enemy moves" and "show friendly moves" options if they are enabled. This should help with the video card. Otherwise it could also be the CPU, or Who-Knows-What which is generally the real problem
