I am unable to connect two computers to play a LAN game. I own 5 machines and host many LAN Parties, so I know my machines work. Civ3 PTW is not a good LAN Party game, but my son and I would like to play H2H.

I have tried on different combinations of 2 machines. When I first got Civ3PTW, I could get the machines to connect, but they would crash. After the first patch, I could connect at first, but then it would disconnect. I bought a second copy of PTW, thinking that must be my problem. I then got the latest patch 1.14f (?), but still no connect. Client sees the host. Client connects to Host. Nothing happens. The Host machine notes the client's entry, but the launch buttons never appear on the client machine.

At this point, I'm thinking there's a registry key somewhere that's denying me access. So I uninstall all versions of CivIII, run a registry cleaner and reinstall both Civ III and PTW. Same Result.

Is this a problem that needs patching or are there hidden files and reg keys that might be causing me problems? Please don't tell me I need 2 copies of CIV III and 2 copies of CIV III PTW! I've spent over $110 already!

Are you using a software firewall on the machines, like ZoneAlarm?

If so try this test. Disconnect your Lan network from the internet. Disable your firewall software. Try the game. If it works you know it's your firewall software is the problem.

Other side questions, are the two machines running the same operating system? Are you connected through a hub, switch or router?

I have two Pentium4 and a pentium2 mmx, i can play a lan with the two p4 but not with the p2mmx !!!
