Language + DX Issues

Evening all,

Having issues with my C5 installation. when running with DX10, the movie runs fine, but then the menus are distorted lingo. Now this isn't the type that I've seen others post about, which are still characters - just all higgletypigglety, this is shades of gray/white which are still selectable in the typical menu style. Obviously with these problems I can't make it into the actual game so don't know how that looks.

When running with DX9, the menus are ok, but the game holds issues. The research menu is not as it should be, and civilopoedia contains boxes which are more like a template, saying things like "Title goes here" "Subtitle goes here".

Anyone got any ideas? I've updated my drivers, graphics and otherwise, and my comp specs follow:

Win Vista 32, ATI Radion HD 3470, Intel duo 2.26GHz, 3G Ram

Any ideas and tips would be great and much appreciated!

Already tried the "verify cache" steam option? Or deleting the cache folder contents on the harddrive?

Other than that, you video card is below min specs, but it should at least technically work

the cache was not the problem apparently, but having reviewed my graphics drivers I can see text etc, but no options on the technology tree or civpeodia
