Anyone know if it's possible to disable a touchpad on a laptop? I always plug my mouse in, but the touchpad stays active, so if my palm brushes it while I'm typing, sometimes action is taken on my desktop unintentionally. I use WinXP, btw.

thanks

Try your setup options in your BIOS. On my Dell Latittude C600 (yeah, I know, old - but it's in great shape and does everything I need a laptop to do) I press F2 when the system is booting up, and on about the third or fourth screen of settings there's one for the keyboard/touchpad. I can disable the touchpad completely, disable when a mouse is plugged in, or keep both the touchpad and mouse active.

On most computers it's possible to disable it in mouse options on the control panel.

Usually there's an icon in the taskbar unless you've taken it away previously. Double click and there may be an option to turn it off if a mouse is connected, but sometimes it turns it off even if I have no mouse connected. There will definetly be an option to turn it off, though.
