I don't know if this is the right forum or not, but it seemed the closest.

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop, and if I did I'd like it to be able to play CIV 4. What should I be looking for spec wise in a laptop? If it helps, I'd probably lean twoards a Dell.

Intel Pentium M or AMD Turion 64 processor ~2GHz, 1024MB of RAM and good video card, at least Mobility Radeon X700 or Geforce Go 6600.

@ Girevik

I am receiving my Asus W2VC today which actually has similar spec to what Russe has listed.

2.1 Ghz Pentium processor / 1Gb RAM / 128Mb X700 - is 17" widescreen though, so *fingers crossed* this wont be an issue.

I'll also note, that I have been playing on my old desktop without any major hassles at all. P4 1.7 / GeForce 3 graphics card.. 1 Gb RAM  Never had an issue other than the game slowing down a bit on larger maps. Never a CTD, no graphics issues.. go figure.

It's the video card that I'm most concerned about matching. Are there any particular makes\models that would be a particularly good fit?

Man, I'd LOVE a machine like that. Do you mind if I ask what that cost?

Well I must say Civ4 runs like a dream on the Asus W2VC.

Not one hiccup at all with the Raedeon X700 128Mb.

Re Price: Lets just say over AUD$3500

I'm playing on the company (ie. dont know what it costs) laptop when travelling. HP-Compaq nx8220, ATI Radeon X600 Intel Pentium "M", 1.86Ghz (sticker on back says Intel Centrino) 2GB RAM 100G disk. works flawlessly wrt. graphics, speed, and smoothness. Now gamebugs, thats another issue...

I'm playing on a dell inspiron E1705 centrino duo 1.86, not sure I'd reccomend it if your company discounts don't totall about $800 in savings. But it comes with a minimum of a 1g ram, and geforce 7800, and if you want to be insane you upgrade. It works completely smooth, but it didn't at first. I got an older driver for my graphics card installed and turned off autosave. it hasn't frozen since. it's got some sharp graphics for a CIV game.
