Hello all,

Playing CIV 3 1.29f, huge map, Greeks ~1400 AD Regent monarchy

I just hit my golden age, I am not at war with anyone, and I have expanded as far as I can peacefully. I am content with the size of my empire and I don't really feel like domination would work this time since all 3 neigboring civs have MPP + ROP with each other... What should I focus my production on for the next 19 turns?

Where are you at in the tech tree? Gear up for Space Race?

edit: but talking about late GA, last time I played as Greece, it was a 5cc Diplo game. I triggered my GA the turn before the vote, by killing a redlined TOW Inf. using Hoplites (it took a few :crazyeye:).

Around 1400AD im usually researching to Cavalry (military tradition) so i can get a one-up on my opponents with ground units. Either that or Theory of Gravity for Newton's University. If im content with my land space I build cathedrals, libraries, etc., make my citizens happy, and then switch over to democracy and try to get science around 80%.

I just researched Steam Power. I think I will be gearing up for cultural victory or space race.

That has never stopped me. Just make MPP's with 2 of them (call them A and B) and then declare war on the third (C). Do not invade on the first turn. When C invades you A and B will be forced to honor their MPP's with you and will break their MPP's with C and declare war on him.

So you are three techs from Scientific Method. How close are you to four-turn research? If you're not too far away then maybe you can get prebuilds going for ToE and Hoover. Either way you might want to go for Industrialisation first for factories.

Another possibility is a deviation to Sanitation for hospitals. I guess that this course depends upon your city spacing. Make sure that you've got plenty of workers to clear up all that pollution though. ;)

My plan was to go for industrialization first then TOE and Hoover. I have one prebuild going(palace) and I am building Wall Street which will probably be my 2nd prebuild. Hoover is a must have for me. I usually wait to build factories until closer to the space race so I can build mass transit to reduce pollution.

What tech is it that causes workers to work twice as fast?

Mass Transits reduce pollution caused by having a population of higher than 12 so you're wasting your time with these unless you have hospitals. Recycling Plants are what you need to reduce pollution caused by this type of city improvement, although this is an optional tech.

Correct. I usually built factories in cities that are huge and have lots of people(+12 at least) so mass transit usually helps out. How can I tell what is the bigger cause of pollution? Also how can I tell how much the pollution is being reduced? I have not gotten to the point in this game that I have to worry about it yet, but it is not far off!!

The number of pollution symbols in the pollution box of each city screen represents the percentage chance that that city will be hit by pollution on any given turn.

Each pop point above 12 creates one pollution symbol. Mass Transits will reduce the total number of pollution symbols caused by population to just one.

Improvements have a set value. Factories, Coal Plants, Offshore Platforms and Manufacturing Plants each add two pollution symbols. Airports, Research Labs and Commercial Docks each add one symbol and if you are lucky enough to have a city eligible for the Iron Works small wonder, this adds a massive 4 pollution points. I believe that a Recyling Plant will reduce the total improvement pollution to just one point.

I believe, though I'm not sure, that pollution is checked twice - once against population and once against improvements - so you can get 2 pollution events a turn.

Anyone know if I'm right on this? I think I remember getting 2 in a turn once, though I'm not really sure....

I'm pretty certain I've never seen pollution strike the same city twice in the same turn. But in those 10+ pollution-per-turn phases of a Huge Milkrun, it's hard to be sure.

Since you're happy with your size as is, and don't want to war anymore, why not save the ToE for as long as you can, and try to use it to nab some Modern Age techs? Unless your rivals are close by.

Is it a direct 1 pollution sign = 1% chance relationship? I never imagined it would be so ... straightforward :crazyeye: after my years of studying the corruption formula...

I always assumed it was only possible to get a single pollution per turn in each town, but that can't be proved (without reading the code), only disproved. Of course, it sometimes seems that you get more than one, when towns overlap. MapStat sometimes reports multiple pollutions in the same town, but I always found they worked out to each have a different town of origin.
