"Latest Civ4 Patch" won't install

I was trying to install Beyond the Sword, but the newer patch for Civilization IV couldn't install. The message was:

"The patch failed to install! Aborting installation."

Dunno why..

What version of civ do you have? Normal on DVDs, the ultimate version, or from an online retailer like Steam or Direct2Drive?
