Leader: Army or Forbidden Palace?

As many of you know, leaders are hard to come by. It takes a lot of time and luck (unless you save and reload every battle) to get a leader. Of the two complete games I have played in Civ3 so far, I have only gotten 2 leaders each time although I was warring constantly later on. Since they are so hard to get, I was wondering if they are better suited to build a second palace to combat corruption (for the expansion types) in remote places, or to build an army so to get incredible defense.

For the miltiary conquest minded people who are not playing emperor or deity level, I think using a leader to build a second palace is actually a great idea, especially if you have expanded to a different contintent and plan to have bases there. Army is a great idea, but their ability to defend far outweights their ability to attack (they can only attack once). Having a second palace lets at least a handful of your cities to be as productive as the cities surrounding your home base. Since corruption renders my cities useless (everything except one shield is wasted/corrupted), the extra production and commerce comes in very handy.

I have not played on difficulty past regent yet, but I think the only way to beat the expert levels is by making peace/alliances and stay low until you acquire your golden age for your unique unit. In that case I think the Great Library or Lenardo's Invention is a better choice for leaders.

Any thoughts?

The armies can only attack once? What happens if you use them to attack again?

per turn...... once per turn.

So units like Armour loose thier multi-attack capabilities.

the first leader definitely should go into an army....after a victorious army you can build military academy, the pentagon, and more importantly, the heroic epic, which then should help you get more leaders and then you can use those to complete your wonders and crap

Neither - hang onto your leader until you get a tech that allows a wonder then rush build it. The forbidden palace is too small to waste a leader on (send a settler deep into the territory you want to expand into and start building the palace right off. Then when your empire catches up your palace is almost done). Armies are nice, but not as nice as a free wonder.

I thought military academies and the pentagon required a specific tech to build not an army. Also what the heck is the heroic epic and how do you get it? Finally what makes armies so darn great?

They do, but they also require an aditional prereq.

You need a victorious army.

Finally what makes armies so darn great?

They take the best attack and defence rateings of all the units in there and combine the HP

Sorry for the stupid question but here goes:

How do I use a leader to rush a project? I had a leader sitting in a city that was building a wonder and for the life of me couldn't figure out the key/mouse strokes to rush it. Thanks guys..

Activate the leader then look down at the bottom-center (where irrigate or build road would be for settlers). There's an icon down there for 'rush project'.

I never build my forbiddin palace far away. A better I idea is to move your capital a city over (so it can be done quickly) and make your forbiddin palace in your former capital. THEN build your capital in the boonies. Why? Because the Forbinddin palace is a wonder, and can only be built ONCE. The capital palace can go anywhere, anytime. So if it turns out another part of your empire has more potential than the place you've put your capital palace, just move it. You can't do that with the Forbiddin palace.

I have played a militarist race (chinese) and got three leaders
I did use the firsy one for the forbidden palace. I was very pleased to get the second leader. I saved the game before the forbiden palaace , but i did spend the dozen turns wodering if I made a mistake, them I got my second leader.

Does anybody know if having a leader effect the odds of getting another one?

Since culture is cumulative, don't you take a huge culture hit if you move you palace after a few thousand years?
